Nigerian International Footballer, Christian Obodo and others will storm Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State to scout for young football talents.
This was made known to newsmen in Warri yesterday by the President general of Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), Comr. Shadrach Onitsha Ebikeme during a media chat with The Liberator Newspapers.
The number one youth in Gbaramatu Kingdom stressed that on Monday the 5th of October 2020, the Pere Cup (A football tournament hosted in honour of the revered paramount ruler of Gbaramatu Kingdom) will begin with teams representing each communities constituting Gbaramatu Kingdom getting ready to display their football talents.
President Ebikeme noted that the much anticipated big event will be hosted in Kurutie, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Comr. Onitsha reiterated that contrary to the belief of some persons in the country that the Niger Delta people are volatile, the GYC president stated that the football tournament will prove to the World that the region is peaceful, particularly Gbaramatu Kingdom.
He said Football brings unity hence the tournament will not only foster unity but will serve as an avenue for the selection and development of young football players in the region with Christian Obodo on ground to scout for players.
Ebikeme said not everyone can work in an oil company as some youths can make it big through football.
He particularly urged the youths of Gbaramatu Kingdom and Niger Delta born young footballers to take advantage of the Pere Cup, stressing that never can tell what can come out of it as Obodo will be live to do the football scouting personally.
Speaking further, Comr. Shadrach had enjoined all sons and daughters of Gbaramatu Kingdom to continue to remain peaceful throughout the tournament and beyond.
Meanwhile, the Gbaramatu Youths Council (GYC) is hosting the football tournament in collaboration with a Football Foundation.
