A Niger Delta based group operating under the auspices of Creek Dragons (CD) has defended the appointment of Engr. Udengs Eradiri, former president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide as Special Assistant (SA) to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Sole Administrator, Mr. Effiong Akwa on Youth.
The group made the call via a congratulatory statement issued to newsmen in Warri yesterday, signed by its president general, self styled Gen. Freedom Adowei, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers.
While congratulating the former IYC President, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, Adowei described the appointment as a round peg in a round hole, stressing that he believes in the delivering capabilities of the revered Niger Delta youth leader.
The statement noted that while the ultimate call of Niger Deltans is for the constitution of a substantive board for the NDDC, it reiterates that Eradiri has been an active member of the Niger Delta intellectual struggle, adding that he will no doubt put in his best in using the new office to negotiate a better deal for Niger Deltans.
Adowei particularly called on those protesting against Eradiri to remain calm as the Niger Delta region is one, stressing that Udengs has paid his dues for Niger Delta emancipation struggle.
Meanwhile, Freedom had appreciated His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Mr. Effiong Akwa and others who worked behind the scene to appoint Eradiri as the SA on Youth in the commission, describing the decision as a perfect step in the right direction.
Creek Dragons had however declared total support for the appointment of the former IYC President, maintaining that it will be so until a substantive board is formed.
