By Binebai Princewill
Fetimi Balogun Bebetebe, an Ijaw Indigene who is a native of Egbema/ Gbaramatu Kingdoms in Warri South West and Warri North Local government areas of Delta State who broke 55 year academic record at the Cebu University in the Philippines is in the news again for achieving another incredible feat. The Liberator Newspapers can report.
This time, the academic genius has been offered admission to study a Ph. d programme in Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in United Kingdom without obtaining a master’s degree.
The Liberator Newspapers gathered that the offer of admission to undergo a ph.d programme by the UK University without the requisite master degree certificate was because of his excellent performance at his Bs.c level at the Cebu University in the Philippines in 2017.
Bebetebe’s success story started when he and other Nigerians were sponsored by the federal government under the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to study Marine Engineering in the Philippines.
His determination to succeed against all odds makes him to make his country proud, by going the extra miles in his studies which resulted in him beating other international students to achieve a 55 year academic feat at the Cebu University in Philippines.
In an interview he granted the press shortly after his graduation, he attributed his success to hard work and prayer, he decried the high level of negligence on the abundance human resources the country is blessed with and called for placing values on talents.
Speaking further, Fetimi Bologun noted that jumping from BS. C degree to study direct PH.D programme is not an easy feat to achieve, but the Lord Almighty made it possible owing to his record breaking result at the Cebu University in Philippines.
Considering the huge money involved, young and highly intelligent Fetimi Bologun Bebetebe had appealed to the conscience of good spirited Nigerians, Niger Deltans and well meaning Ijaws to come to his rescue financially in order to further his education at the highest level.
While speaking on the prospects of the direct PH.D programme, the academic gazelle stressed that although from Bs.c to study PH.D is not an easy feat to achieve, he maintained that in Marine Engineering, due to certain circumstances, people that have studied up to a Ph. D level in Nigeria are very few unlike some other disciplines, adding that he really needs help to make this programme a reality which according to him would also add more value to the Nigerian nation.
However, Fetimi said there are lots of opportunities in being a Ph. D holder in Marine Engineering, stressing that he will be so happy to tap from this enormously positive opportunities both within Nigeria, the institution he is to study and the World maritime industry.
He particularly thanked his parents, Dr. Patrick Akpoboloukaemi, Prophet TB. Joshua, Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu Federal Constituency, House of Representatives cum philanthropist who had while welcoming the genius home after his previous academic feat remarked that for Ijaw student to get this far in academics, all supports from any corner of life should be made possible to see that the next academic program; the admission on direct PhD without masters becomes a reality. Fetimi also thanked others for their solidarity so far.
However, the darkside of the story is that Bobetebe is currently on the verge of loosing the admission owing to paucity of fund and other logistics required to scale through.
A copy of the admission letter sighted by the Liberator Newspapers confirmed that the program is expected to commence 1st February 2021 and terminate 1st February 2024.
He needs approximately N7 million naira to continue his academic journey.
This is therefore a clarion call on government and good spirited Nigerians to come to the aid of the young champion who is already making Nigeria and the African continent proud in the global maritime industry.
Nigeria cannot afford to loose such brain while other countries are busy encouraging theirs with every legitimate means available.
While we have well meaning individuals that can be of help, we have the Nigerian Government, Delta Amnesty Programme, the NIMASA, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Delta State Government, DESOPADEC and of course the Egbema/Gbaramatu Community Development Foundation (EGCDF) that can be of help in which he is luckily an Indigene of both Egbema and Gbaramatu Kingdoms.
