An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and one time chairmanship aspirant in Burutu Local government area of Delta State Engr. Victor Warefa has expressed joy over the freedom granted former Niger Delta freedom fighter, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo by a Lagos Federal High Court penumate week.
Tompolo and others were aquitted last week Wednesday after Justice Ibrahim Buba found them not guilty of the 40 count charge slammed on them by the Federal government.
Reacting to the judgement, Warefa described the acquittal of Tompolo as long overdue, saying that the freedom is victory not just for Tompolo but the entire Ijaw nation and all lovers of democracy and justice in the world.
The Niger Delta business guru cum politician disclosed that the judgement of the court has indeed vindicated both Tompolo and the entire Ijaw nation.
He commended the Judiciary for chosing to do the right thing against the wish of some elements in government who had vowed to get Tompolo convicted at all cost, noting that they have truly proven to be the last hope of the common man.
The APC chieftain also expressed optimism that Tompolo will not relent in his quest for the total emacipation of the Niger Delta region but this time, through dialogue.
While noting that the total emacipation of the Niger Delta area remains non -negotiable, He called on all stakeholders in the region to unite with Tompolo to achieve greater peace and tranquility.
He noted that the APC as a party stands for progress and development and will always support developmental programmes and policies that will help the people of the Niger Delta leap frog from their current state.
He advised agents of government to stop victimising those who dare to speak up against the injustice and untold deprivation suffered by the region that contributes over 80 percent of the resources of the nation.
