A pan Niger Delta group, the Ijaw Interest Advocates (IIA), otherwise known as the Izanzan Intellectual Camp has appealed to president Muhammadu Buhari to consider Mr. Edmund Ebiware, an Ijaw that was sentenced to life imprisonment since 2010 to be included among those that the presidency would be pardoning amidst the rampaging novel coronavirus in the country.
The Izanzan Intellectual Camp made the appeal recently via a statement issued to newsmen in Warri, signed by the group’s national coordinator, Amb Salaco Yerinmene Snr, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

The group noted that Edmund Ebiware has been in detention for about 10 in the Kuje prison, adding that this is the right time to pardon him for whatever offense he may have committed.

IIA particularly described the situation of Ebiware as terrible and terrifying, stressing that he has suffered so much already, forgiving him now will make sense as people that have committed worse crimes than him are already making the presidential pardon list.

The group particularly begged president Buhari to have mercy on Edmund Ebiware for the sake of his aged parents, wife and children.

The statement reads in full below:

COVID-19/P-PARDON: PRESIDENT BUHARI SHOULD HAVE REASONS TO PARDON EDMUND EBIWARE, OTHER IJAWS, IZANZANCAMP APPEAL.

It has come to the notice of the leadership and members of Izanzan Intellectual Camp that President Buhari will be giving presidential pardon to 2,600 prisoners across the Nation following the outbreak of the Coronavirus also known as Covid-19.

Therefore it is our utmost humble appeal to President Buhari to have reasons to offer presidential pardon to Comrd. Edmund Ebiware amidst others.

This appeal is not to claim that our kinsman, Ebiware is innocent or not of what he had been sentenced or apprehended for hence our appeal is necessary.

Even as we are appealing to the father of the nation to listen to our cry and most importantly the cries of the immediate family and the children of Mr. Ebiware, we implore Ijaw leaders to also have reasons to intervene quickly.

Having heard and been informed that the likes of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and other top politicians that has been incarcerated for fraudulent antecedent are also to be given presidential pardon, we strongly appeal to Mr. President’s conscience to heed to our appeal by granting freedom to our kinsman who still have a lot to do for our dear country, Nigeria.

Records shows that Mr. Edmund has been apprehended behind bar for over 10years and it is indisputable fact his children and parents are not in good state of mind for not having him around and we trust Mr. President will as well feel the degree of pain the parents and his lovely wife and children are passing through over this years.

Biblically he who offend God has another chance to make amend therefore we call on Mr. President to reflect on the citation of forgiveness and have reasons to also grant presidential pardon to our dear brother to enable him reunite with his lovely family he had miss for over ten years.
