The Delta South structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday held its 2021 maiden expanded exco meeting at the Okere office in Warri South Local Government Area where series of issues geared towards maintaining the dominance of the party ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the State and 2023 was critically discussed.

The Liberator Newspapers can report that the marathon two phased meeting held yesterday first began as a close door meeting among the Delta South PDP Exco members which later  dovetailed  into the expanded exco meeting with the various Peoples Democratic Party Delta South Local Government Chairmen that gracefully attended the meeting.

In his opening remark during the expanded exco meeting, Dr. Julius Takeme (JP), Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta South Senatorial District had briefed the party leaders in the meeting on the need to strengthen the bond of unity among stakeholders of the party ahead of the March 6th local government elections and 2023 general elections.

In his words: “This is the first meeting of the party in 2021. 2020 was an historic year, #endsars protest, Covid-19, flood and what have you. We thank God that we all came out strong.

“We are the leaders that are entrusted with the leadership of the party in the 8 local governments in the Delta South Senatorial District. We have to build synergy, we have to draw up the agenda for the party in the senatorial district in this 2021. The year is still very fresh hence we have to keep the ball rolling. The senatorial district leadership, various PDP LGA Chairmen, elected officers, political appointees, ward leaders and our party faithfuls must be in synergy.

“There has to be a lot of consultations in strengthening the bond of unity in our party, we have been able to visit our highly revered Deputy Governor, Barr. (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu  Otuaro, Hon. Mike Diden, popularly known as  Ejele, Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu Federal Constituency.  There are others to meet in our consultative visit which is still ongoing.

“Party business has to be running, we need to form activities, we don’t need to keep quiet, at least the unity, love and strength in coming together cannot be overemphasized. Party activities also means meeting with political leaders in our senatorial district. We have to put the party together in Delta South. There has to be a synergy among us.We just came out from lga primaries, whatever fall out we may have during the just concluded primaries, as leaders of the party, it is purely a party affair to appease whoever that is aggrieved. We have to manage the situation by appealing to any aggrieved person or persons.” Dr. Takeme stated.

After much deliberations among the party leaders, Chief Favour O. Izoukumor, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Warri South West Local Government who briefed The Liberator Newspapers on the outcome of the meeting noted that the meeting was a fruitful one.

He said after much deliberations among the party chieftains, the party officials noted that since the party is just coming out from the its primaries, the party observed that there could be aggrieved members within the party following the just concluded primaries hence a reconciliation committee was set up to reach out to all aggrieved members of the party across the senatorial district.

Chief  Izoukumor hinted our reporter that ahead of the forthcoming Delta State Local Government elections in the State, the party at the senatorial district had resolved to call for an all encompassing PDP meeting where leaders and other critical stakeholders in the Delta South Senatorial District  will be attending for further deliberations on the way forward ahead of the 2021 March 6th elections and 2023.

The Warri South West PDP Chairman noted that the meeting saw the need for various leaders of the party in the Senatorial District coming together as crucial and important, adding that there is power in unity and oneness hence the proposed all encompassing meeting.
