In what appears like a gathering of political gladiators, high ranking politicians in Delta State particularly from the Delta South Senatorial District held her leadership meeting at the Government Annex Warri, Delta State.

The meeting which was convened and presided over by its senatorial chairman, Chief (Dr) Julius Takeme (JP) had heavily harped on the unity of the party, expansion of its membership base ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Dr. Julius Takeme had in his opening remark hinted the political gladiators on the reason behind the meeting, stressing that there is the need for leaders of the party and its massive supporters to be united more than ever ahead of 2023 and beyond.

He assured the party leaders that while the senatorial leadersdhip of the party under his watch and command is working assiduously with other components like the Local Government Executives as well as ward excos across the senatorial district, he noted that the party is well positioned to win all elections come 2023.

Takeme maintained that the primary function of any political party is to win election, adding that the Delta South Senatorial district under his watch at the level of PDP will not be an exception from the foregoing, emphasising that it is the cooperation of leaders of the party in unity and love that will continue to make the party dominate ppolitically in the senatorial district.

While speaking on how to expand the membership base of the party in Delta South, Takeme had stated that his doors are open to address any issue brought to it by anyone in the party, noting that a political party can’t go far with a divided house.

The Delta South PDP Chairman had also appreciated leaders and supporters of the PDP for their show of love, stressing that the party under his watch won local government elections and the Isoko North State Constituency By-election.

In his words: “I appreciates party leaders and faithfuls for attending this meeting, the party is very strong and resilient and is in position to win all elections come 2023, the only mandate of any political party is to win election, PDP is the only party in Delta State, Delta South is PDP and PDP is Delta South.

”I have called this meeting for us to discuss on how we can move the party forward ahead of 2023, we are going to do our work with due diligence without biase to justify the  job as a party. We are going to be transparent enough as we go about the party administration in Delta South, I am assuring the leaders of putting in place modalities to get more members, party unity is important, my doors are open for all in the party, we can’t go far with a divided house, i appeal to the PDP family in Delta South to love ourselves. Victory has always been our portion. We are going to expand our membership base.

“With our recent victories in Delta State and beyond, it shows that Nigerians have rejected the All Progressive Congress (APC) for life.

“Our work to reclaim 2023 presidency and other positions in the state have been made easier with the multifaceted issues bedeviling the country, ban on Twitter, insecurity, poverty and what have you.”

On his part, former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan had appreciated Takeme and his exco in productively handling the party so far.

The former Governor of Delta State had particularly tasked Deltans to take it easy with the series of campaigns, adding that election is still far, he noted that it is only the Lord Almighty that gives power and not any man, he particularly decried the level of hate speech among politicians ahead of 2023, saying “What will be will be”.

In his words: “Unity and peace is very key and important for our party to move forward, on 2023, let us stop hate speeches, election is still far, there is nothing anyone can do about who becomes the next Governor of Delta State, senator and what have you, who will be will be, we should be careful on how we go about our campaigns, let us at every point discourage crises under any guise. I appreciates Takeme for handling the party so far. Every leader must go back to their wards to boost membership for the party. On NDDC, I have also urged Akpabio to immediately set up the NDDC Board.”

However, His Excellency, Barr (Dcn) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, deputy Governor of Delta State had lauded Dr. Takeme’s leadership of the party in Delta South, declaring that he is solidly behind him.

While speaking on series of issues, Otuaro said “I appreciates Uduaghan for putting in place the peaceful atmosphere in the state that heralded the emergence of the Okowa’s administration. I commend him for his peaceful conducts, and his role in the party in 2015 and 2019 and 2023 in view. Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is indeed a true party man.

“Two wrongs cannot make a right, so much is being done to keep Niger Delta peaceful behind the scene, we must go back home to preach the gospel of peace at all times. We must not forget in a hurry 2016 militancy that negatively affected the Nigerian and Delta State economy and other harrowing effects it brought to almost everyone.”

The deputy Governor of Delta State had in his remark recalled some  laudable projects undertaken by the Okowa led administration in the areas of Job creation, massive road infrastructure in the state and other areas.

Nevertheless, he particularly appreciated the party for their supports towards the Okowa’s administration.
