In what has been described as a good omen for Nigeria’s democracy, young Desmond Binebai who is aged 30 has clinched the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party Primary ticket  for Burutu North House of Assembly in Delta State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted its primary for House of Representatives and State House of Assembly yesterday in Burutu at the community town hall.

However, The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report that all the three candidates of the ADC in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State were elected unposed during the party primaries in Burutu.

Burutu was agog following the declaration of Desmond Binebai as the winner of the ADC primary for Burutu North, a declaration made by the ADC returning officer monitored by INEC officials and other chieftains of ADC.

INEC was represented by Mr. Austin and Comr. Bright Christmas as well as Mr. Dennis Otutufegha, Barr. Goddy Afoegba and others that represented the party (ADC) for the primaries.

Speaking to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide shortly after his declaration as the winner, Binebai had dedicated his victory to the Almighty God and his late father, Chief T. M Binebai whom he described as a man he will never forget in his life.

When asked what propelled him to embark on such political journey, Desmond stated that he is venturing into politics to change the narrative in Burutu North,  stressing that Burutu North is ripe enough for youthful representation in the state house of Assembly.

He continued that while older politicians have tried their bests in the Local Government over the years, he stressed that it is now time for them to give way for their children to also come in with fresh ideas to move the constituency forward.

Speaking further, Binebai said come 2023, the ADC will fully be on ground for the general elections, adding that with God by his side, victory is sure.

According to him, the coming days will be interesting politically in Burutu Local Government Area, stating that come 2023, there is going to be a paradigm shift in the system.

However, it would be recalled that just as Desmond Binebai clinched the ADC primary for Burutu North ticket, Prophet Ebi Peremene and Mr. Tabai  Bibobra Brian (Son of King Justice Tabai) also clinched the Burutu Federal House of Representatives and  Burutu South primary tickets of the party.

Historically, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a political party in Nigeria. As of 2015, there were 5 ADC party members in the Nigerian National Assembly. They were all members of the House of Representatives and represent constituencies in Oyo State. There are no ADC party members currently in the Nigerian Senate.

The party was originally named “Alliance for Democratic Change” when it was formed in 2005, but renamed the African Democratic Congress by the time the party was registered with the Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The goal of this name change was for the party to be able “to effectively encompass and reflect the aspirations of our people.” The ADC headquarters is located in Abuja, Nigeria, but there are plans for the office to relocate.

On 10 May 2018, the party was adopted by former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s political movement called the “Coalition for Nigeria Movement” (CNM). Obasanjo now serves as the chairman for the party. Per his speech titled “My Treatise For Future Of Democracy And Development In Nigeria”, the goal of the CNM adopting the ADC party was “to work with others for bringing about desirable change in the Nigeria polity and governance”. There are ADC representatives in every state in Nigeria.
