PRESS STATEMENT BY THE IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL (IYC) WESTERN ZONE [DELTA, EDO AND ONDO STATES]: ON THIS YEAR’S BORO DAY, OUR READINESS

*Enjoins all to attend event at Bomadi: The Statement as circulated

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has enjoined Ijaw people, particularly the youths in Delta, Edo and Ondo States to grace this years Boro Day in Bomadi town.

The Boro Day is a yearly tradition [every 16th of May]—which is sacred for all Ijaws to reflect and commemorate, Ijaw finest statesman and nationalist, Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, fondly called Boro.
On behalf of the Zonal executive we thank all Council members, leaders and supporters for working tirelessly in last year’s Boro Day and pleaded with all to ensure they attend this year’s Boro Day with a similar vigour and enthusiasm.
*P.S. the dress code, for this year’s Boro Day is all white. Venue Bomadi town 9 am prompt with Ijaw music icon Chief Kingsley Takeme to perform.

When we came into office we held our first Boro Day at NPA with a procession in Warri. Our first Boro Day in office witnessed an unprecedented, relentless, and engaging mobilisation from all Council members, indeed it was a worthy one for our icon and hero. So, the credit goes to all members of Council particularly to leaders and Council members who supported the process with resources, ideas and moral encouragements.

We would also like to state that preparations for this year’s Boro Day has begun, and the dress code for the event is all white with a procession to be held at Bomadi town where music icon, Chief Julius Takeme will entertain us as we reflect on the struggle for emancipation.
We therefore hope to see where Council members and indeed Ijaw youths will continue to be involved in every Boro Day where we can use it to advocate for issues Boro fought and believed in.

Nothing more would make Boro more proud when as Ijaw people we participate in this process to deepen our socioeconomic development and sociopolitical advancement in controlling our resources by any means necessary. All necessary modalities to ensure we converge at Bomadi town is on course and we urge all to attend.
Boro lives on!
