Nigerian Police Begin Probe Of Alleged Shooting At Governor Fubara Amid Ongoing Crisis In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command says it has launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances around the alleged shooting at the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara amid the ongoing crisis in the state.

“We’re aware of the security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. The Rivers State Police Command is actively addressing the matter.

“We’ve launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances and will take immediate actions against those responsible. Stay tuned for further updates. Your safety remains our priority. #RiversSecurity,” the statement read.

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, had accused security agencies of bias and “shooting at him directly” amid the ongoing crisis in the state.

The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide earlier reported that security personnel on Monday fired gunshots and tear gas on the premises of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex as lawmakers commenced the process of impeachment of Governor Fubara.

It was learnt that tear gas was used to disperse some lawmakers and protesters after the governor stormed the complex to prevent his impeachment.
