Gov. Okowa 4 Billion Loan: IYC demands befitting structures in Marine School, completion of Ayakoromo bridge

..Says Ijaw lawmakers should jettison selfish gains that will not repress and plunge Ijaw people to hardship

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to eschew political expediency and ensure Ayakoromo bridge and Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, in Ijaw areas are given the maximum attention, for the socio-economic well-being of the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State.

It is distressing to note that Ijaw people of Delta State despite their economic and political contributions continue to be relegated,  plead for development, in most instances when given, they are rewarded with dilapidated projects and underfunded institution [Ayakoromo bridge and Marine School, Burutu].

IYC Western Zone, in a strong statement called on Governor Okowa to as matter of fairness and its agenda for a “Stronger Delta,” commit a reasonable amount of the 4 billion naira, to the Ayakaromo bridge and put befitting structures for permanent site, in School of Marine Technology, Burutu and of course other strategic projects that are sited and abandoned in Ijaw areas that will boost economic activities.

IYC Western Zone, also advised members of Delta State House of Assembly, particularly lawmakers from Ijaw areas to keep these strategic infrastructures in heart and jettison selfish gains that will not repress and plunge Ijaw people into more hardship, as the 4 billion loan is approved for Governor Okowa.

Thus, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone urged Governor Okowa to make use of the 4 billion prudently by ensuring befitting structures are put in place, for the School of Marine Technology, Burutu and its full accreditation, so that Ijaw people will not only enjoy quality education that is functional, but can showcase its potentials and meaningfully contribute to nation-building.

Similarly, IYC Western Zone also called on Governor Okowa to expedite actions on how to reunite Diebiri people back to their ancestral home for them to practice their shared norms, values, traditions, and customs: peacefully.

Signed: for IYC Western Zone

Dr Doubra Collins Okotete, Chairman and

Comrade Lugard Izoukumor, Information Officer
