A global peace expert, renowned advocate of good governance and a humanitarian champion cum Executive Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Amb. Dr. Comr. Shedrack Agediga has tasked oil bearing communities in Niger Delta to restratigize for their development. The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report.

The DESOPADEC Executive Director of Planning, Research and Statistics made the remark recently in a zoom programme tagged “Why Not Warri ? ” as his contributory conversation during the zoom meeting.

Speaking further, the revered Niger Delta leader had also described GMOU as an insult and embarrassment to the people of oil bearing communities, stressing that

figures should reflect profit of the business of the multinationals, adding that oil producing communities must plan properly for their development. 0

“Warri has been a progressive community , before and after the arrival of the Multinationals. I was a youth leader in Ogulagha Kingdom for 6years and have had several interactions and engagement with Multinationals. At the time they operated a supply driven development approach, doing whatever they deem fit for the community.

“The GMOU and the monies being contributed for community development is an embarrassment to our senses as the figures should reflect profit of the business of the Multinationals.

“You can’t build a 6 class room block in Ogulagha Kingdom or Gbaramatu kingdom, and feel satisfied that you have contributed to development. We have not done well as a people in driving home our developmental plans, if there is any. While the Multinationals , being business people , have shown over time that they will go any length to maximize profit. So host communities need to restrategize, build a developmental plan and use the best of their human resources to their benefit.

“In places the Multinationals don’t operate any longer, the ecological cost is there for the people to pay for generations with nothing to really show for.” Agediga stated during the conversation.

It would be recalled that the DESOPADEC ED, PRS is the founder/Chairman of the Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF), a Non Governmental Organisation he has used in transforming the lives of many across the country.
