Palpable tension is currently brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Burutu council area of Delta state, when the agenda of a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday allegedly took a different twist.

His Excellency, Amb. Dr.

Anthony Ebitonmo Alapala, a leader in Ogbolubiri Ward 9, raised the alarm in what he termed “breach of existing agreement” by a few leaders to impose Mr Ebike Oromoni to continue as party chairman in the council area against the zoning system.
He warned that if Gov Ifeanyi Okowa, the state PDP chairman, Barr Kingsley Esiso, failed to arrest the situation in the bud, PDP in the council would break in pieces.
He narrated that a stakeholders’ meeting was called by the party secretary on Friday at Burutu, the council headquarters, stressing that before they arrived at Burutu, they saw a different ball game.
“Before we got to Burutu, what we saw was an endorsement of the incumbent party Chairman, Mr Ebike Oromoni, by some party leaders which has never happened in the party.
“PDP in the council area has a verbal agreement, that if the council chairman is coming from Burutu North, the party chairman must come Burutu South and vice versa and that agreement stands till today.
“The present council chairman is from Burutu South whose tenure will elapse soon just as that of the party chairman (Burutu North) whose tenure will elapse in May this year.
“So, Gov Okowa and the state PDP chairman, Barr Kingsley Esiso, I want to state clearly that if you want PDP to survive as a party in Burutu, this decision taken by some few leaders should be reversed with immediate effect.
“Your Excellency, I want to remind you of what I discussed with you in February, 2019, how some Burutu leaders manipulated the party primaries in your name, which you said you were not aware of their action. The same thing is repeating itself now!
“As a leader in my Ward and in the council area, information I have gathered has it that an Electoral College has been set up, particularly in my Ward.
LGA Chairman who cannot be a judge in his case presided and so it is null and void.
“If immediate action is not taken, PDP in Burutu will break in pieces and there will be mass Exodus to opposition parties because a lot of agrieved persons are waiting to strike”, he said.

The Liberator Newspaper can report that Dr. Alapala was a former contender for the Burutu Local Government Area Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chairman and later contested to represent Burutu North in the Delta State House of Assembly under the PDP assembly primaries.

He maintained that even though he lost out in the different elections at the party level, he still continue to remain in the party to make things happen, stressing that he can’t say same if such alleged impunity continues.
