Amnesty: Creek Dragons reiterates call for Dokubo’s immediate replacement
…Says Programme Has Lost Focus Under Him
Group known as Creek Dragons, Saturday, August 3rd, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently replace his adviser on Niger Delta and coodinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo.
In a statement made available to Liberator newspaper via mail, the group national President, General Freedom Adowei, noted that the call for the immediate sack of Dokubo was for the general good of the Niger Delta and for those whose bloods upon which the program came into being.
General Adowei further noted that the retrogression and other excesses the Amnesty Programme has suffered due to Dokubo’s incompetence can no longer be condoled by the ex-agitators.
According to him, the Amnesty Boss not knowing much about the programme has resulted in abuse of that exalted office and deviation from the aims and objectives of the programme.
“We have endured too much excessive incompetence from Dokubo, it appears he knows nothing about the amnesty programme and we cannot continue to watch him dance the dance of retrogression. Never, we will not accept it.
“The amnesty program which began in 2009 has lots of plans for the ex-agitators, the level of abuse in the office under Dokubo is so rampant that he is yet to even know the aims and objectives of the program”, he added.
The national President of Creek dragon said it saddening his heart seeing how people who fought for the programme have been reduced, abandoned, sidlined and consequently turned beggars by Dokubo and his team, while those not captured initially in the programme are active beneficiaries now.
He lamented that monthly stipends of a large number of the ex-agitators have been stopped for very strange reasons difficult to fathom, as he said, “the programme has been completely hijacked by completely strange people.”
Creek Dragon national President berated Professor Dokubo for the wide range of corruption rising from massive looting of starters-packes at Owubiri, Bayelsa State, discontinuation of ex-agitators training, stranded and abandoned students on foreign scholarship, etc.
He specifically indicted the Amnesty office in conniving with hoodlums in looting Amnesty starters packages meant for supposed empowerment of delegates worthing billions of naira, adding that impunity under Prof. Quaker is so pervasive.
He added, “The amnesty office cannot continue to pretend as if nothing happened at Owubiri in Bayelsa State on the massive looting that took place there, till date, nothing is being done or said about that incident, how the amnesty office connive with hoodlums to loot amnesty packages meant for supposed empowerment of delegates worthing billions of naira. The impunity under Prof. Quaker is so pervasive.
“Another sad development is that while a large number of the ex-agitators are yet to be trained by the amnesty program, strangers that are not part of the program are the ones going for training.
“It is no longer a news that students in foreign universities are left stranded and unattended to, how the once lively program have been mortally abused by Dokubo to a personal business.”
He stressed that Amnesty Programme under Dokubo is like a sheep without Shepard, banana republic where anything goes and above all, a misplaced priority wherein people who wish to attend tertiary institutions are diverted to learning handiwork etc.
General Adowei therefore recommended that Buhari replace Professor Dokubo with a more competent hand whom according to him should come from Delta State.
