Urges Ijaws To Work With Him

Leading Niger Delta human rights activist cum philanthropist, Amb. John Dekawei has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment of Col. Milland Dikio (rtd) as the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, describing it as an indication that the programme would not be scrapped. 

Reacting to the development, Amb. John Dekawei said the appointment have  laid to rest earlier speculations that the Amnesty programme was going to be scrapped by the Federal Government. 

“The Amnesty programme by this gesture from the Federal Government will continue. We commend President Muhammadu Buhari for this and also appeal to him to make Niger Delta development a priority as the region is the sole contributor to the economic viability of the country”. 

Amb. John Dekawei had in the statement called on those  “appointed by the Federal Government to manage the resources of the Niger Delta people to be prudent in discharging their duties and always remember that the Niger Delta people and region needs every kobo allocated to it to be developed “It is disheartening that Niger Deltans appointed to develop Niger Delta region are always accused of mismanaging the resources accrued to the  region; It will be great for once for Niger Deltans to take the development of the region seriously and work towards actualizing the aims and objectives of their appointments.”

While reeling on the euphoria of congratulating the new Amnesty Coordinator, Col. Dikio Milland Dixion, Dekawei had called on all sons and daughters of Ijaw nation, Niger Deltans to work with him, stressing that he has been appointed hence the Ijaws must also rally round him by making him succeed. 

However, the appointment of Col. Dixion Milland Dikio first surfaced on the media on Wednesdays 26th of August with many Niger Deltans doubting the authenticity of the news  but eventually all doubts were cleared when Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity ratified the appointment by releasing  a press statement to that effect upon the directive of president Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday 27th of August 2020.

The statement maintained that Col. Dikio’s appointment takes immediate effect. 

Meanwhile, Amb. John Dekawei, an irrepressible voice for good governance had earlier published on The Liberator Newspaper, appealing to president Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a coordinator for the amnesty office, stressing that it has lingered for too long as it was breeding bad blood in the region. 

It would be recalled that it was exactly five days later after the John Dekawei publication (August 22nd -27th 2020) that the appointment was announced.

The young disciple of good governance had particularly appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for listening to his voice and that of Niger Deltans, adding that he has proven his unflinching love to Niger Deltans once again. 

Dekawei had wished the newly appointed Amnesty Coordinator a fruitful tenure with shining legacies that will stand the test of time. 

Amb. John Dekawei is President general of the revered Niger Delta Socio Cultural group under the aegis of Delta Ijaw Youth Movement for Political Advancement (DIYMPA), raising the banner of good governance in Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. 

Meanwhile, It would be recalled that Amb. John Dekawei is the founder and chairman of the John Dekawei Foundation (JDF), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) he has used in transforming the lives of many across the World.
