A Niger Delta leader, Chief Azaiye Pinki, the Ganpamowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State has vehemently opposed the appointment of  Col. Milland Dikio (rtd) as the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

Chief Piniki also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently revisit and reverse the appointment of Col. Dikio, describing it as an appointment made in grave error that must be corrected immediately.

The Niger Delta revered Chief made the call yesterday in Warri via a statement he personally signed and circulated to newsmen, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

The renowned Architect had noted that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot continue to sabotage the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme with people that are allegedly not part of the Niger Delta struggle for liberation and their enormous sufferings.

He particularly roared that the chain of appointing retired military men and old people to coordinate the Amnesty office since the present administration is becoming worrisome and alarming, fuming that such must be put to an end now.

Chief Azaiye stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari and his crew must look for other offices to compensate their old friends and retired military men and not with the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme that was established via series of bloodbaths that  later gave birth to the programme.

He frowned that the appointment of these old folks have not yielded any positive result, alleging that their appointments have in most cases compounded the woes of the region as they know nothing about the Niger Delta struggle and the pains suffered by those in the creeks who fought and even died for the Amnesty Programme.

Piniki had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of deliberately appointing people that will not do anything good for the region, adding  that Mr. President’s activities with particular regard to the Amnesty matter has not been fair to the Ijaw people.

According to him, there are so many issues hovering around Dikio’s appointment as it is now the turn of Delta Ijaws to produce the Amnesty Coordinator, emphasising that Rivers State have already produced Prof. Dokubo who is just leaving the office now.

He said Ondo and Bayelsa States have also produced the Amnesty Coordinator while Delta State that is the major contributor of the programme had been so neglected for this long without appointing any of its numerous and capable sons that understands the pains and sufferings of the people.

In his words: “Are the Delta Ijaws not feat to occupy that office as coordinator? ,everything is wrong with this appointment, it is unacceptable, we will not accept it, we must also have a shut in that office and the time is now.

“This is really strange as foreigners are now the active owners of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, a programme we fought so hard to establish has turned out that the owners are now strangers, what an hullabaloo”.
