President general of Niger Delta leading socio-cultural group, operating under the auspices of Delta Ijaw Youth Movement For Political Advancement, DIYMPA, Amb. John Dekawei has carpeted those calling for the sack of Prof. Charles Dokubo, Coordinator of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, PAP and Presidential Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs as enemies of Ijaw nation.

The National President of DIYMPA made the assertion earlier today while reacting to calls among Niger Deltans calling for the immediate replacement of Prof. Dokubo via a press statement personally signed by him in Lagos and circulated to newsmen, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

Amb. Dekawei, a supersonic voice in the Niger Delta struggle for liberation stated that the Amnesty boss deserves accolades from well meaning Ijaws and not condemnation from his people.

He maintained that Prof. Charles is doing his best in revamping the Amnesty office, stressing that although no one is perfect but he should not be subjected to such media crucifixion by his people.

Dekawei insisted that if anyone in Niger Delta thinks he or she has good ideas that will make the Amnesty office effective more than the way it is, he suggested that such person or group of persons should meet with Dokubo and suggest to him instead of calling for his removal.

While defending Dokubo, the Niger Delta human rights activists cum philanthropist had advised the Ijaw nation not to use their brothers occupying political offices like Dokubo as sacrificial lambs, stressing that the Ijaw people should be wise.

In his words: “My advice to the Ijaw people is that we should be wise, sometimes we act as if the Ijaws are the most corrupt people in Nigeria when holding sensitive political offices, how many times have we seen the Hausas, Yorubas in fact other tribes in the country frequently and so determined in pulling down their own political actors holding offices. You will not see anything like that even if it happens it will be once in a while, but our own case is every day. This is really sad.

“Who is now better than Dokubo in Ijaw, we are all one, we should allow him to finish his tenure. Prof. Charles is not the problem of Ijaw nation, we all know our problems and Dokubo is not our problem, why is it difficult to let the man be? “.

The Niger Delta advocate of good governance, John further explained that Prof. Dokubo is a full blooded Ijaw man who has the right to occupy any office in the country, noting that no one is more Ijaw than him.

He said the frequent calls on Dokubo’s removal is a distraction to the smooth running of the Amnesty programme, warning that henceforth such calls should stop for Dokubo to concentrate and perform better which according to him will be in the best interest of the Ijaw nation.

According to him, his publication aimed at setting the records straight is purely coming from his heart as he is not doing it for sycophantic reasons nor has he benefited anything from the Amnesty office.

He said Niger Deltans, particularly Ijaws needs to encourage Prof. Dokubo and not the other way round, vowing that he will never take part in any action that will bring fellow Ijaw man down.
