Asupa congratulates Okowa on appeal court victory, says will of the people prevailed

The member representing Burutu North in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Asupa Peter Forteta have described the appeal court victory of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as divine affirmation of the mandate freely given to him by Deltans at the March 9 governorship election.

Hon. Asupa who is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a political force to reckon with in Burutu Local Government and Delta State made this known during an exclusive chat with The Liberator Newspaper on Friday.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had Friday dismissed a suit filed by the All Progressives Congress and its candidate Great Ogboru against the election of Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor of Delta State.

A five-member panel of the appellate court led by Justice Uzo Ndukwe-Anyanwu, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal for lack of merit and upheld the judgment of the lower tribunal.

The panel held that the judgment of the lower tribunal could not be set aside unless where it was perverse, they further held that the appellants failed to prove their case.

Reacting to the judgement, Asupa congratulated the governor on the victory, noting that, the victory has confirmed to everyone that Governor Okowa truly won the election and not the other way as claimed by the opposition and its candidate, Ogboru.

While commending the Judiciary for leaving above board, even in the face of intimidation and incessant harassment by the ruling government reminded them that they remain the hope of the common man and should not succumb to undue pressure aimed at scuffling the course of justice in the country.

The lawmaker who is most often referred to as political ‘holy Michael, the ‘Odogboru’ and Political motor saw said he is very optimistic that Governor Okowa will continue to focus on his SMART agenda which is already in motion towards building a better and more prosperous Delta .

The Odogboru reminded the opposition that Delta State belong to everyone irrespective of political affiliation and philosophy and urged them to join forces with the government of Okowa so that the Delta project can be achieved.

He thanked Deltans, particularly the people of Burutu Local government for their support to him and the Governor, saying that his tenure will be dedicated to legislative business that will canvass development and empowerment of the people.

Hon Asupa was a former caretaker committee chairman of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State and later elected chairman of the council. Through hard work and diligence he was later elevated to commissioner for youths and sports development, and later Commissioner for urban renewal, Delta State, before his present status as lawmaker representing Burutu North in the Delta State House of Assembly.

He has used his God given offices in transforming many lives across Burutu Local Government Area and beyond.
