Asupa Tasks Journalists On Professionalism, Rubbishes Report Linking Him With A Police Officer – The Liberator

The member representing Burutu North in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Asupa Peter Forteta has rubbished a rumour published by a certain news blog linking him to having a fight with a police officer in Warri recently.
Hon. Asupa while condemning the report noted that he would never degrade his status as a lawmaker in the state to have a rift with an officer on strict lockdown duty to avoid the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking further on the development, Hon. Forteta, one of the most loved politician in Burutu Local Government Area and beyond had particularly tasked Journalists in the state to only report truthful news with balanced reportage.
He noted that certain reports from some acclaimed media practitioners appears to be shameful and denting the image of the noble profession.
In his words:”It is so appalling on what the once noble media profession is becoming these days, everybody is now a journalists, this is really disturbing and sad, media practitioners or bloggers must stop spreading fake news and painting untrue nature of things”.
In his statement made available to newsmen in Warri earlier today, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper, he said: ” I am the Chairman, House Committee on Security in Delta State, and by virtue of that, it’s my duty to ensure that every Deltan complies to the lockdown order with security operatives in the state.” Hon. Forteta Stated.
He went further to explain that at the time of the incident, he was rushing to Sage Clinic along Okere-Ugborikoko road in Warri to discharge his son who had been down healthwise when he was stopped alongside other cars. He (Asupa) introduced himself, flashed his I.D Card and explained his purported outing at the time but the said officer allegedly behaved unruly to him persistently despite his explanations.
“As many testimonies against the said overzealous officer from B- Division Police Station in Warri by people at the stop and questioning point would have it, that the officer harasses people unnecessarily and an hour before they went out on duty, the officer most especially was forewarned to be professional in the discharge of his duty but he behaved otherwise.” Hon. Forteta stated.
Hon. Asupa Forteta noted that being a peaceful and law-abiding Deltan and leader in the state, he had to report the case to the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) on the stance for caution.
He however admitted that the situation was brought under control as cautious calls reached the officer from the appropriate authority after reporting him and since then the said t overzealours officer acknowledged his flaws.
Meanwhile, he had cautioned security operatives in the state not to go about intimidating innocent people, stressing that Deltans must also comply with the order to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the state.
Asupa stated that the Nigeria Police Force is a respected institution so shall it continue to remain, adding that nothing can come between himself and the good relationship he has with the Police over the years.
The Chairman, Delta State House Committee on Security, Hon. Asupa Forteta had also called on all Deltans to adequately comply with the lockdown order to avoid the spread of the pandemic, stressing that he believes Delta as a state and her people shall come out of this trying period stronger than ever.
