Bayelsa state chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Moses Cleopass has raised alarm over what he described as perceived moves by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to influence the decision of the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, in the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and the immediate past Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson against his opponent from APC, Mr Preye Influence Oseke, over election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency election in Bayelsa state.

In a statement in Yenagoa, Chief Cleopas disclosed that his party has received information that some top politicians behind the candidate of the ruling party had concluded plan to use a Judge from Bayelsa state to reach the members of the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in a bid to subvert justice in favour of the APC candidate.

The PDP state chairman further alleged that intelligence reports reaching him indicate that same politicians have allegedly commissioned some judicial officers at the federal to ensure that the matter was decided in favour of the ruling party despite the fact that parties have presented their evidences, saying that it was now left for the tribunal justices to decide.

The state party chairman however expressed confidence in the ability of the justices at the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal to tow the path of honour without fear or favour, adding that the truth will always prevail over falsehood.

Recall that Court of Appeal President, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, relocated the Bayelsa State election petition tribunal to Abuja for security reasons.
