.…asks for recall of Bayelsa lawmakers

Amb. Sheriff Mulade

An Ijaw leader, AMB. Comrade Sheriff Mulade has commended Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State for heeding public outcry to decline assent to the bill seeking life pension for state lawmakers as canvassed by the State House of Assembly.

While Speaking with journalist in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Comrade Mulade noted that a bill that proposed a monthly pension of N100,000 for members while the Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be entitled to N500,000 and N200,000, respectively, was self serving, myopic, unconstitutional, subtle robbery, and anti Ijaw development.

He described as very unfortunate the alleged inability of Bayelsa State lawmakers to make laws that would attract growth and development to the State.

He lamented that while Bayelsa State faces myriads of economic challenges, with low internally generated revenue, its law makers are busy enacting anti people laws to enrich their pockets.

The Niger Delta activist called on Ijaw people in Bayelsa State to commence a process of recalling the legislators from the sensitive business of lawmaking, adding that selfish ambitions should not override the sense of service to the people who elected them.

He said lawmakers were expected to make laws that would promote growth and economic development, as well as influence government policies for the good of the people, saying that the life pension bill would portend an unfavourable political climate, the desperation to occupy political offices at all costs, and other selfish ambitions.

Amb. Mulade decried the alleged anti Ijaw development disposition of the law makers and declared them unfit to contest the 2023 general elections, describing them as unreliable political businessmen and women.
