The communique had hailed His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State on the Sagbama/Ekeremor road project, stressing that Sen. Seriake  Dickson also deserved to be applauded for initiating the road project during his tenure as Governor of the state.

The group while speaking further also raised concern over the insecurity challenges bedeviling Sagbama community and the local government, adding that the Governor, Local Government Chairmen in Ekeremor, Sagbama, Security operatives  and other critical stakeholders should swing into action by keeping the situation at bay before it degenerate into something else.

The communique reads below:

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY BAYELSA WEST YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM.

~ No Zoning of Bayelsa West Senatorial Seat.

~ Lauds Gov. Diri and predecessor Sen. Dickson for the ongoing Sagbama/Ekeremor Road.

~ Condemns The Security Challenges in Sagbama

Introduction

A foremost youth organisation in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, the Bayelsa West Youth Leadership Forum (BWYLF), a  grassroot sociopolitical group comprised of eminent youth leaders across Sagbama and Ekeremor LGAs has given her opinion on the raging argument concerning the zoning of the Bayelsa West Senatorial seat among Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas. The youth body made her position known in a meeting held at Sagbama Town, headquarters of Sagbama LGA.

The followings are some of the resolutions reached  at the meeting of the youth leaders:

  1. That the Bayelsa West Senatorial seat is open for anybody to contest, nonetheless, the youth leaders laid much emphasis on capacity over mediocrity. The group reiterated that every qualified son/daughter of  both local government areas is free to contest, for this has been the practice from the inception of the forth Republic.

The group noted that, there has never been a time where leaders of different political parties across the Ekeremor and Sagbama LGAs met and agreed on a zoning principle, either written or  verbal, but it has always being a contest among both LGAs.

The youth leaders argued that there is no  organised zoning arrangement like that witnessed in other Senatorial Districts in Bayelsa State (Bayelsa East), which has consistently maintained and respected a zoning principle.

“Therefore we call for every qualified adult citizens of the Senatorial District to discard the naysayers who are calling for zoning and focus on issues based campaigns”.

 2. The group applauded the Governor Douye Diri led administration for its giant development strides and for making Bayelsa State a construction site. The Youth leaders maintained that His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri has fulfilled his campaign promise of consolidating on the gains of his predecessor, His Excellency, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson. Among many ongoing projects is the Sagbama/Ekeremor road which is highly commendable.

The BWYLF equally hailed former Governor of Bayelsa State, now Senator Bayelsa West, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson for the initiation and execution of the Sagbama/Ekeremor road that has today recorded an historical moment of jubilation as cars drove to Ekeremor town.

  1. The group has also condemned in strong terms the unbearable security challenges at Sagbama town, headquarters of Sagbama Local Government Area and Bayelsa West senatorial District. The Youth Leaders called on security operatives to boost their security apparatus in the area. Noting  that the major duty of the security operatives is to protect live and prosperities. In a similar vein, the youth leaders called on the Bayelsa State Livestock Management Committee to swing into action and curb the incessant disruption of farmlands by Herders grazing in some communities in Ekeremor LGA.

They also called on the Local government Chairmen of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas, who are the chief security officers of their LGAs to be more proactive in terms of security issues, as the news of insecurity. Likewise, government and security agencies are urged to be more effective. The Bayelsa West Youth Leadership Forum also advised everybody to make security their priority.
