The people of Kunukunuma community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State have cried out over what they described as the age long negligence meted out on the community despite its political contributions in Delta State over the years.
The shocking revelation was made known to newsmen in Warri yesterday by chairman of Kunukunuma Federated community, Chief (Hon) Moses Bebenimibo who addressed the press on behalf of the community.
Chief Moses, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Warri South West Local Government Area had wondered on why Kunukunuma should be facing what he described as “Zero level of development” from the Delta State Government over the years.
It would be recalled that Chief Moses Bebenimibo doubles as the Amadiwei of Kunukunuma Federated community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, a title that makes him a first class leader in the community with different powerful authorities.
According to him, he has being a staunch member of the PDP since the inception of the party, delivering bloc votes to ensure that the party triumph at every elections despite stiff opposition in the community.
The community leader had charged the Delta State Government under the leadership of Governor Okowa and his deputy Otuaro to prioritize the development of Kunukunuma as a new government is about to be constituted.
The Amadiwei had particularly fumed over what he described as the wanton neglect of the community by successive Delta State Governments.
He had stressed that the community lacks all form of government presence, ranging from non availability of internal road network, no hospital, no drinkable water and no power supply.
He said, the community has been wallowing in darkness despite its close proximity to the Nigerian Maritime University, at the Kurutie temporal site, Warri South West Local Government Area, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.
Why prioritizing the development of Kunukunuma is very crucial ~ Chief Moses
However, Chairman of Kunukunuma Federated community, Chief Moses Bebenimibo had further explained why the Delta State Government must prioritize the development of the community.
According to him, the community is the hometown of a revered All Progressive Congress, APC leader in Delta State who was even the DG of the Delta State APC campaign Council, maintaining that it was not an easy task to deliver the community to the PDP.
He had noted that the only way to put smile on the faces of the people is to develop the area and to rescue him out of mockery from the opposition for delivering bloc votes to the PDP.
The revered community leader had noted that the only primary school that is in the community is a dilapidating structure that was built by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC in 1996, adding that there are no enough teachers to teach the pupils as the academic future of children in the community is astake.
Meanwhile, Bebenimibo had described Kunukunuma in terms of development as a living hell, stressing that the Delta State Government must ensure to do something positive about the aforementioned issues this time around.
In giving a brief history about the community, chief Moses had revealed that Kunukunuma is an ancient settlement in Gbaramatu Kingdom after Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of the Kingdom.
He had called on Governor Okowa and his deputy to appoint sons and daughters of the community into the government to enable them feel sense of belonging and the building of shoreline to prevent flood in the community which he said is becoming one of the most dangerous disaster to members of the community.
