A literary genius, Prof. Benedict Binebai from the Niger Delta University, NDU, Bayelsa State has tasked Ijaw politicians, particularly in Delta State to prioritize construction of road from Warri to Ogulagha in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Prof. Benedict noted that if the politicians can unite together with Ijaw pressure groups, the project will be achieved within the shortest possible time.
He said having Ijaw communities connected with road remains one of the most important things the Ijaws should ask for, stressing that the oil will make no much meaning to the people without enjoying such road after decades of oil exploration in the area.
Prof. Binebai made the call yesterday via a statement issued to newsmen in Yenagoa, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

He said the oil extracted in the soil of Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area and other Ijaw communities in the Niger Delta region has been used to constructed lengthy roads, building of cities and otherswise in far away regions, adding that using the people’s wealth to construct road for them is the best thing to do.

Binebai insisted that lack of road in the said area has led to unprecedented level of underdevelopment, maintaining that the ugly scenario must stop now.

“Let us move beyond Facebook rhetorics on this important subject. We must invite our political representatives and ask them to begin the process of putting pressure on the governments and oil companies that matter to commence the construction of the road.
“We must do this for our generation and the future generations. Oil wealth drawn from that area commenced in the early sixties. This wealth has constructed many roads in Nigeria, it has been used to construct interstate roads running across the length and breadth of this country.
“Roads that are uncountable times longer than the Ogulagha- Warri distance. Most roads in major cities of Nigeria are built with our oil wealth. Burutu, Ogulagha-, Odimodi people deserve this road. We have given our wealth to the nation and the state for over 55 years without a corresponding development all because of lack of motorable road. It is time to to use our wealth to construct our road before the oil runs dry or goes fallow.” Prof. Benedict Binebai.
