A group operating under the aegis of Soke/Yok Youth Investigative Team in oil rich Ogulagha Kingdom has alerted the Federal government of Nigeria, Delta State Government, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and members of the general public that there is massive oil spillage in Forcados Terminal.

The group made this known to newsmen in Warri earlier today via a statement signed by the trio of Ebikumor Kema, Chairman, Ebikeme Abanre, Secretary as well as Amos Igere, Public Relations Officer ( PRO), a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers.

Kema, Abanre and Igere revealed that as an independent investigative team in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, they have been following the  activities of SPDC and its operations in the area for some time now.

They noted that the oil spillage has occurred in Sokebolou/Yokiri Federated Communties in the Kingdom for over a month now from manifold 4 to jacket 51, resulting to the massive death of fishes and other aquatic bodies.

The statement insisted that the prolonged uncleaned oil spillage has led to pollution on the waterways and the air has been gravely polluted, stressing that despites all these, the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is yet to claim responsibility by doing the needful as they continue to pretend as if nothing is happening.

The group asserted that the oil spillage has brought about untold hardship to the people of the area hence the Federal government of Nigeria, Delta State Government, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Federal Government parastatals, International bodies   and well meaning Nigerians should come to their rescue.

“We can’t continue to die in silence, enough of all these, our lives are not safe any longer, SPDC should urgently take responsibility by cleaning up the entire environment, provide relief materials and begin the process of adequate compensation to affected communities “. The statement  added .

Meanwhile, in order to balance our report by hearing from officials of SPDC, The Liberator Newspapers decided to put calls across to SPDC, operators of Forcados Terminal, Manifold 4 and Jacket 51 but they were unable to respond to the calls neither return such calls put across to them as at the time of filling this report.
