Former leader, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND cum Chairman, Egbesu generals, self styled Gen. Freedom Adowei has escaped death after sustaining 250 bullets fired on him by unknown gunmen suspected to be All Progressives Congress, APC thugs yesterday.

According to his spokesman, Barrister Frank Ekpemupolo who briefed pressmen on the matter had stated that Adowei convoy was attacked by the hoodlums while returning back from his house to house campaign for Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate in Akure, the capital of Ondo state at 3: 30 in Akure yesterday, capital of Ondo state.

It would be recalled that the ex MEND leader was a strong believer of Egbesu, believed to be the protector of the Ijaw people in times of war, danger and the facilitator of development, progress.

The Egbesu general had being a henchman for the APC within the last few years but decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP recently after Atiku Abubakar emerged presidential candidate for the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Upon his return to the PDP, he had frequently used the media in advocating for an Atiku presidency, stressing that Abubakar remains the only antidote for a working Nigeria.

The Gen. Had earlier pledged to produce thousands of votes to ensure the victory of Atiku’s presidency.

However, it was learnt that Adowei, chairman of Egbesu generals in the Niger Delta had in a meeting recently held in Ondo state issued out a communique declaring the group’s support for the Atiku/ Obi ticket for presidency, with a promise to mobilize votes within the Niger Delta and beyond through house to house campaign.

In the meeting that was well attended by former warlords of the region including strong men from other ethnic nationalities within Niger Delta, the group chaired by Adowei had stated that they were not induced financially towards doing a campaign for Atiku by the PDP, but maintained that such was their contribution in making Nigeria great again where democratic tenets will fully be operational.

It was gathered that one of his boy, name withheld sustained serious bullet injury and is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital within the South East.

Meanwhile, Frank Ekpemupolo, spokesman to the Egbesu general had stated that Egbesu deserves praises as it fortified Adowei against the hoodlums after receiving 250 heavy bullets without any scratch on his body and to also rescue him miraculously to his destination.
