Decries Non Payment Of 28 Months, Wants President Buhari To Wade Into Issue

Students in the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) in Nigeria earlier today blocked the East West Road of Bayelsa axis in protest of the non payment of their in training allowances (ITA) running into 28 months. 

Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr. Gabriel  hinted The Liberator Newspaper that the twin protest have become necessary as students who came into the programme during the Dokubo era through the former Head of Education, Major Hassan Kesiena Mowarine via  the impacted community slots have not been paid any form of allowances or entitlements apart from the initial payment of their school fees. 

 They noted that they are undergoing series of academic quagmire owing to the non payment of their fees as they are on the verge of writing exams without some basic academic necessities. 

While highlighting on the reasons for the protest, national president of PAP students, Mr Justice B. Ujoju who also briefed our reporter said  “As Students under PAP, we  blocked the East West road as a result of our unpaid in training allowances (ITA). Some of us are owed 5 months  while some are owed 8 months. Majority of us are preparing for our exams and we need our ITA to enable us get the necessary things like laptop, Data bundle, since we have come to embrace virtual learning. We are begging President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the interim committee headed by A.A Lawal of the Presidential Amnesty Program, to do the needful so as to consolidate on the progress made so far by the federal government.”

The students particularly appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately prevail on the Interim Committee headed  by Mr. A.A Lawal of the Presidential Amnesty Program to release funds for them to purchase some essential materials for their electronic learning and fast approaching examinations. 

Meanwhile, in another development, the protesting students who caused gridlock in the Bayelsa State portion of the East West Road was taken to the Bayelsa State Government House for discussions was arrested by officials of DSS.
