The people of Burutu community, headquaters of the Local Government Area of Delta State have cried out to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently address the deplorable and decaying state of things bedeviling the general hospital.

The call was made yesterday at the hospital when members of the community led by its Chairman, Comr. Ebipadewei Pondy visited the near retrogressively finished hospital.

While expressing displeasure over the issue, the Burutu community chairman described the general hospital as “a death trap”. This according to him is owing to the fact that there is no functional medical Doctor to handle cases in the hospital.

He lamented that it is strange for both the state and local governments to have wantonly denunciated the general hospital to the deplorable condition it is now.

The chairman maintained that at a critical time like this when there is government directive of total lockdown, Burutu, headquaters of the Local Government has no medical Doctor to attend to any case, paraventure if there is an emergency.

Speaking further, Comr. Pondy also noted that beside the non availability of a medical Doctor in the general hospital also raises other concerns ranging from insufficient staffs, zero medical facilities, non availability of laboratory scientist, pharmacist, decaying beds as well as lacking all meaningful medical equipments any normal hospital should ordinarily have.

“Our lives are in grave danger, we are no longer safe with this development, how can people living in Burutu and indeed others within the Local Government Area and beyond that look up to the general hospital for medical care survive, the Delta State Government must not play politics with it. This is truely a worrisome development”. Chairman Pondy asserted.

However, members of Burutu community had noted that Burutu beside hosting the Local Government as its headquater is also playing host to the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu with a host of almost all the tribes in Nigeria owing to its status.

Meanwhile, Comr. Ebipadewei had explained that residents in the area will be in a bind particularly in this season of lockdown should there be any case of emergency as there is no Doctor to attend to any case nor there is free movement to transfer patient (s) to Warri for medical attention.

He particularly stressed that the Delta State Governor should think of the lives of the people and urgently take steps by directing whoever that is in charge to deploy permanent Doctors, improve on the staff strength, purchasing of new and benefiting beds as well as medical equipments that should be in any normal hospital.

Pondy revealed that the state of things in the hospital is that bad that woods are now used as a drip stand.
