Burutu Community Leadership Visits NNS DELTA, Area Command As Security Tops Discourse

The leadership of Burutu community in Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State yesterday visited the Nigerian Navy Ship, popularly known as NNS DELTA in Warri to discourse burning security issues bedeviling the waterways in recent times.
The delegation was led by Chairman of Burutu community, Comr. Pondy Ebipadewei and secretary of the community, Chief Edwin Dio on behalf of the entire people of Burutu community.
At NNS DELTA Warri, the chairman decried the spate of insecurity in the once peaceful area, stressing that the community is ready to partner with the base to combat criminal elements that have vowed to make the area unsafe for the rural dwellers.
But in a sharp reaction, a representative of the Base commander who pleaded not to be mentioned in print noted that NNS DELTA in collaboration with other security agencies are on top of the situation in Burutu, stressing that they are already flushing out the hoodlums bit by bit.
He took his time to explained that the insecurity in Burutu waterways has become a burden to almost all the critical stakeholders in the state, stressing that political appointees including His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is worried over the situation.
However, the officer noted that they are making significant progress in their bid to completely dislodge all criminal elements in the area, stressing that those are security details that cannot be divulged, promising that at the appropriate time, progresses made will be published for members of the general public to see.
He particularly expressed confidence that NNS DELTA and other security operatives are working with a time limit to eradicate the criminals in the area, adding that with the progress made so far, they are sure of beating the time limit.
Nevertheless, he had assured the Burutu community leadership not to worry as they will continue to partner with the community.

Earlier in his speech, chairman of Burutu community, Comr. Pondy Ebipadewei had pleaded with NNS DELTA to extend their medical care programmes to Burutu for his people to benefit, however, the Base commander representative in the meeting promised to look into the matter, maintaining that Burutu might be considered when the base is to begin the exercise probably next year.

The delegation moves to Burutu Area Command at Ovwian

Worried about the protracted stay of the Burutu Area Commander at Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Pondy continued his security poised familiarization tour to the Commander at the Ovwian police station.
At the temporal office of the Burutu Area Commander, ACP Adepegba K. Adeboye, Comr. Ebipadewei appealed to the Area Commander to do everything possible to ensure that he resumes work in Burutu being the operational headquater of the command.
He noted that with the movement into Burutu by the Area Commander and his men will not only increase the man power of the police in the community but will send signal to criminals in the waterways.
He particularly begged ACP Adepegba to see what can be done to ensure that the police patrols the waterways to keep criminals at bay, stating that the community and other critical stakeholders in Burutu will be happy to see him going to resume his official duties in Burutu being the operational headquater of his base.
On his part, the Burutu Area Commander noted that he is the second Area Commander that has been posted to the command since it was created last year, he maintained that it is only normal for him to resume his duty in Burutu but asserted that there are factors militating against his going to Burutu.
According to him, some of the factors include non availability of operational office in Burutu to work with his men, noting that without an office it is not possible for him to relocate to Burutu with his men.
He further noted that as it stands, he is working closely with all the Divisional Police Officers under the command, stressing that the Burutu council chairman, Hon. Godknows Angele is fixing the office building and it is yet to be completed, promising that when it is completed he will definitely resume in Burutu.
On patrolling the waterways, he noted that his men are handicapped when it comes to patrolling the area because there is no functional speed boat that is owned by Burutu DPO neither the area command under his watch.

He lamented that the only boat that is said to have been owned by the Burutu Division is in a bad shape as it was donated by a good Samaritan to the station, he explained that it has always been one form of repair to the other, he stressed that such dead but breathing engine cannot be used to patrol the waterways in check for deadly criminals.

Pondy appeals to Okowa to provide speed boats, makes other demands for the command

Worried over the development, Comr. Ebipadewei Pondy, chairman of Burutu community has appealed to His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to consider the Burutu case as a peculiar one.
He noted that Burutu Local Government Area remains one of the largest in Nigeria and mostly a riverine one, he stating that though the police is a federal force but noted that there is surely ways that state governors augment’s the work of the police by providing vehicles and other facilities in the urban, stressing that such gestures should be extended to Burutu as well.
Besides the speed boats assistance to the Burutu Area command, Pondy also pleaded with His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to support the Burutu council chairman for the completion of the Area Command Office and other vital facilities that they will be needing for effective operations in the area.
Earlier, ACP Adeboye noted that the aforementioned issues have been tabled before the Delta State Commissioner of police and other stakeholders in their various meetings, adding that there is a promise of looking into it, but how soon when many things are astake is what he can’t tell.
