Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has announced extension of another 14 days lockdown in the state to curtail spread of the deadly Coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.
The State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this in a news briefing earlier today at the Government house Asaba, stressing that the extension is necessary to identify, isolate and detect cases should they arise.
He maintained that the decision for the additional 14 days is for the interest of Deltans.
In his words: “It is for public good and interest of our health. I urge all Deltans to cooperate with us”.
However, the latest decision of extension brings the total lockdown days to four weeks, as he has also directed the state Commissioner of Police to ensure enforcement of restriction of movement in the state with curfew from 7am to 7pm.
Governor Okowa in his briefing, disclosed that distribution of food items stored in the food bank in Ibusa will commence within the next 48 to 72 hours to Deltans irrespective of political arrangement.
Meanwhile, Deltans who placed calls to The Liberator Newspaper have expressed dissatisfaction on the latest development, adding that the people are suffering and the extension is like a punitive mission against the people.
The callers who pleaded not to be mentioned in print while hailing the Governor for his fight against coronavirus in the state alleged that Okowa should have relaxed some part of the order like opening of banks with some conditions.
Sustain the closure of borders, ban on public gatherings, closure of schools.
They advocated that there should be some level of intercity movement.
“We are now like prisoners in a cage, this is really too much for us, please our Governor, reconsider your decision by looking into the issues raised “. One of the source stated.
This is a developing story, more details later.
