COVID-19: Joy In Ofougbene As Engr Tonlagha Donate Food Items To Community – The Liberator

It was joy unspeakable to the people of Ofougbene community in Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State as Engr. Michael Tonlagha donated food items to the people in order to cushion the effect of Covid-19 in the state.

Tonlagha, a renowned Niger Delta philanthropist while addressing the press after the presentation of the food items to the leadership of Ofougbene community earlier today noted that he feels so disturbed for what the people might have been through within the last one month.

He explained though there is partial relaxation of lockdown in the state, stressing that the items were token on his personal capacity to reach out to the people. Saying that one must not have heaven and earth before doing good.

Engr. Michael said he is not donating the food items as an NGO but as a concerned indigene of Ofougbene community, adding that he cannot watch his people, particularly the vulnerable passing through some form of hardship without do anything tangible about the situation.

Speaking among other issues, Engr. Michael said he is not a politician nor having any ambition in the town, maintaining that the items were donated out of his freewill.

The philanthropist also called on the people, particularly Deltans to strictly adhere to the preventive measures put in place by the World Health Organisation and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, stressing that life has no duplicate.
Tonlagha had further called on the people to always obey directives of the government, insisting that such directives is for the best interest of Deltans.

He however, expressed worry over the rising positive cases of Covid-19 in Delta State, maintaining that he is optimist that the virus will soon be a thing of the past as God is not sleeping.
The award wining Niger Delta philanthropist also placed a call to well meaning Ijaws never to relent in rendering assistance to the various communities, adding that the people are really having tough time.
Speaking on behalf of Ofougbene community, Prince Dio Adiri, public relations officer had appreciated Engr. Michael Tonlagha for his kind gesture.

Prince Adiri reiterated that the food items will go a long way in ameliorating the sufferings of the people, particularly the vulnerable, saying that the gesture is a rare one.
The image maker of Ofougbene prayed for Engr. Michael Tonlagha on behalf of the community to continue to succeed in whatever he sets out to achieve, noting that the community is happy and grateful for the gesture.
Speaking on the level of Covid-19 awareness in the community, Prince Dio stated that series of awareness campaigns has been done by the leadership of the community in sensitizing the people.
On his part, Hon. Izon-ebi Wuruyai described Engr. Tonlagha as a rare personality in the Niger Delta region, stating that he is use to doing good.

Hon. Wuruyai said the philanthropic gestures of Engr. Tonlagha predates this era of coronavirus, adding that the Lord Almighty shall continue to bless him for his good deeds.
Wuruyai said he is proud of Engr. Michael Tonlagha anytime, anyday and anywhere, adding that he feels good to witness the presentation of the food items to the community as he maternally hails from Ofougbene.

The Liberator Newspaper observed that the food items presented to the community include bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, bags of onion, kegs of groundnut oil and other items.

Members of Ofougbene community who were present during the presentation include Comr. Dennis Giyale, Vice Chairman of the Community, Mr. Emomotimi Pereyegbagha, Fidelix, Jesphta Essi as well as others.

It would be recalled that after the presentation of the food items, as son of the soil, Engr. Tonlagha also to a walk round the town and paid a courtesy visit to the paramount ruler of Iduwini Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Bosu Dio (JP) Ayamabulou 1, at his palace in Ofougbene.
