Covid-19: Kou Youth Leader, Etuele Carpets Sterling Over Neglect Of Host Communities – The Liberator

A youth leader of Agge subordinate communities in Kou kingdom of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Lucky Etuele has berated Sterling oil firm for refusing to reach out to its host communities with palliatives to help cushion the impact of the hash economic situation caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

Etuele, who is a revered opinion leader in the community said the action of the oil firm is condemnable considering how much of relieve the palliatives would have been to the people at this critical time.

He stated that since the coronavirus pandemic was declared a global emergency followed by lockdown order by government, most organizations has reached out to their host communities through various means but that the same cannot be said of Sterling as people of Kou communities are yet to receive a dime from them.

The youth leader noted that as a people, they felt the impact of the covid-19 on the Sterling, but the company on it’s part was insensitive to the plight of the people by channeling their covid-19 support to the Delta State government instead of the host communities that bears the brunt of its exploration activities.

He disclosed that directing the palliatives to the government will mean a direct attempt to bribe the state Government by an organization whose activities have remained questionable especially in their relationship with host community.

He urged the state government to return all the relief materials received from Sterling to it’s host community, which he described as the “hen that lays the golden egg”
