The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Ogulagha Kingdom structure has called on  the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC to immediately discontinue the barring of host community leadership structures, job and business opportunity seekers from accessing the SPDC Forcados Terminal, Ogulagha and other oil flowstations across the kingdom since the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 till date.

The revolutionary pressure group kicked against the unprintable factor of using the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse to deny access to the terminal in order to carryout their alleged shaddy deals.

The group averred that while the SPDC deny their host access to the terminal, they keep flying their staff and new employees in and out on daily basis. In a statement signed and endorsed by Comr. Samuel Ebiarede Uyadongha, Chairman, Comr Igere Clever, Secretary General, and Comr Keneware Emmanuel, Information Officer, a copy of which was made available to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide, the group stressed that  SPDC only used Covid-19 as an excuse not to grant indigenes access but always comes out of their premises every evening for pleasure purposes.

According to them “This is a clear indication that they are playing pranks with the Covid-19 issue.”

They also hampered on the fact that SPDC terminals and flowstations in other places like Bonny is open to the public to access with strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.
According to the IYC leadership, the questions begging for answer include: “Why is the Ogulagha Kingdom case different, is Corona virus not in other places other than Ogulagha Kingdom? there is report of zero infection cases in Ogulagha kingdom since the break of the pandemic so why are we  treated as though our kingdom is the epicenter of the pandemic in Nigeria? “

From all indication, the SPDC is only fooling and playing pranks with the intelligence of the Ogulagha people.

The statement concluded that “we have resolved to organize mass movements against this unfair and unjust treatment by the SPDC in conjunction with the IYC western zone leadership as well as students and women groups if access is not granted to our people in adherence with the laid down Covid-19 protocols across the country”

We are also giving the SPDC a reminder of the purported sacked  community workers to be reinstated with immediate effect as the sacked workers issue is long overdue.

Meanwhile, the group also states that there are capable and qualified indigenes that could be employed and be converted to Shell staff. “We are urging the SPDC to take that into cognisance and work towards it. ” They added.
