President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Assembly have been asked to suspend indefinitely the anti social media bill which seek to impose death penalty on violators currently before the national assembly.

A concerned citizen of Nigeria Engr. Austin E. Debekeme Jr. made the call through an open letter to the Mr. President and members of the national assembly on Tuesday, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

Debekeme while giving knocks on the executive and legislative arm of the government reminded them that they were elected to make legislation that will protect the right and interest of the citizens and not kill and cause pain to the people through controversial laws.

He further said ”there are much more important and heart disturbing situations in the country that your attentions should be focused on resolving and hate speech isn’t one of them.

”The likes of Boko Haram and the Fulani Herdsmen have taken lots of innocent lives from existence and has equally made many citizens homeless and suffer, your attentions should be focused on solving these problems and make the people feel safe, even Boko Haram members that have killed several innocent Nigerians, we see the Federal Government freeing these people. ” he added

He also urged the lawmakers to channel the energy they are desipating on the hate speech bill to activities and legislations that will revive the country’s dwindling economy and all time high inflation rate.

”Another problem the Country is facing is the economy crises. Things are getting expensive every blessed day in the country, the prizes of goods, food stuffs are inflating everyday due to our economy problem. Some homes/families can’t even afford two meals for themselves daily”

”What the country needs right now is a stable and healthy economy and a safe environment where the people will feel safe and without any form of fear to go out to do their little business and work to manage with their families. You know the challenges the country is facing that really needs your attentions, so please focus on resolving them and worry less about implementing a law on hate speech.” He advised
