A global voice for good governance, Amb. John Dekawei has bemoaned the lugubrious state of things bedeviling Ijaw nation in the Nigerian State.

Amb. John Dekawei, a leading philanthropist made the assertion earlier today in Warri via a media chat with The Liberator Newspapers.

The young human rights activist maintained that day in and day out, his people, the Ijaw people in the Niger Delta region are suffering untold hardship on a daily basis.

He particularly described the Ijaw people as an endangered species in the country, stressing that there is hardly any Ijaw town in Nigeria that has a drinkable water.

In his words: “How do you expect the people to be happy when they don’t even have a clean water to drink before talking about real development, the people have been so dehumanized, raped,  abused  and reduced to nothing by their own people despite being producers of oil which has become the mainstay of our economy. The countless health challenges faced by the people is mostly traced to the unclean water they drink from the polluted pond wells and river on a daily basis. We can’t always blame the  federal government and multinational oil companies.  What are our rich people doing about our pathetic situations in the various Ijaw communities.?  Erecting a drinkable water for our Ijaw communities by our privileged leaders is not something that is too difficult for them to do.”

Speaking on the issue of development in Ijaw land, he said while underdevelopment is seemingly making a permanent dwelling in Ijaw land, the lives of those living in the communities, particularly those in the creek communities are not safe as they drink polluted waters that are hazardous to the human health.

Amb. John further attributed the mysterious deaths of people in the said communities as the lack of basic social amenities for the people, stressing that as important as water is to humans, the people don’t have water to drink as they drink from the polluted wells and sometimes rivers.

However, Amb. John had called on Ijaw leaders to have a rethink and review their lifestyle by prioritizing the development of their communities, adding that Ijaws cannot continue to always blame the federal government and multinational oil companies, stating that almost all Ijaw communities have rich people that can at least erect a portable drinkable water for their people before any other thing.

Amb. John Dekawei is President general of the revered Niger Delta Socio Cultural group under the aegis of Delta Ijaw Youth Movement for Political Advancement (DIYMPA), raising the banner of good governance in Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

Meanwhile, It would be recalled that Amb. John Dekawei is the founder and chairman of the John Dekawei Foundation (JDF), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) he has used in transforming the lives of many across the World.
