The National President of DIYMPA made the call yesterday while reacting to a letter emanating from the Federal Ministry of Education that the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West, Delta State is in Bayelsa State.

It would be recall that the Federal Government on Thursday dissolved the Governing Councils of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State and the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Delta State.
A statement by Mr Ben Goong, a director in the Office of the Honourable Minister of Education, made this known in Abuja.
Goong quoted the Minister, Adamu Adamu as saying the dissolution of the Governing Councils was with immediate effect.
Adamu thanked members of the Governing Councils for their service to the institutions and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The Liberator Newspaper can report that the University of Port Harcourt governing council was inaugurated by the minister of education on Jan. 18, 2017 while that of Maritime University, Okerenkoko was inaugurated on March 22, 2018.
However, Amb. Dekawei, a supersonic voice in the Niger Delta struggle for liberation stated that such grave error or wrong impression that NMU is in Bayelsa State must be corrected immediately, stressing that for a ministry of such academic empire to make such grave mistake is appalling, sad and provocative.
President John, Niger Delta human rights activist cum philanthropist particularly described the letter from the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu as suspicious, warning that the ministry and others within the corridors of power must not try anything funny, adding that the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko has nothing to do with Bayelsa State, wondering on why it should be linked to Bayelsa State.
Speaking further, the Niger Delta advocate of good governance, Dekawei decried the infrastructural developmental negligence of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, maintaining that the Federal Government must prioritize its development as the only higher institution in the riverine communities of the region.
He said if years after its take off in Gbaramatu and the level of infrastructural development remains in a shambolic manner, he asserted that the Federal Government of Nigeria have not been so fair towards the growth and development of the institution.
Amb. Dekawei noted that putting the records straight becomes necessary as both conventional and online papers have hitherto reported the matter that NMU is in Bayelsa State as contained in the said surreptitious and controversial letter, maintaining that the Minister and his crew must immediately correct the impression, adding that it is so wrong.
The Niger Delta philanthropist had urged the Federal Government of Nigeria, particularly to the current administration not to treat the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko as a foreign institution, stressing that Nigeria is one.
“It is no longer a news that since the birth of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, it has been one thing to the other, never have I seen anywhere in the country and the world where the establishment of a higher institution struggle and go through a lot of imbroglio before it could come to limelight and even after birth, it is still struggling to survive, this is really pathetic”. Amb. John Dekawei stated.
The peace ambassador also described Gbaramatu Kingdom and Niger Deltans as a people living in hell to make Nigeria economically, socially and politically viable, noting that the people have been exposed to all sorts of environmental pollution from uncleaned oil spillage, uncontrolled gas flare and what have you to the disadvantage of their healths.
He argued that such people bearing the brunt of environmental degradation must be prioritized and considered in the scheme of things.
It would be recalled that Amb. John Dekawei is the founder and chairman of the John Dekawei Foundation, a non governmental organisation he has used in transforming the lives of many across the country.
