A group housing all Human Rights Activists from the Ijaw extraction in Delta State under the aegis of Delta Ijaw Comrade Community (DICC) have while celebrating Delta at 30 outlined key projects and things to be done to make the Ijaws truly happy in the state.

The group made their position known via a statement personally signed and issued to newsmen in Warri yesterday by President general of the Delta Ijaw Comrade Community (DICC), Amb. Comr. Binebai Yerin Princewill, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide.

Amb. Binebai, President of the Delta Ijaw Comrade Community noted that it is true that His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State have done a lot of remarkable projects and things worthy of commendation in virtually all sectors.

DICC maintained that the massive road infrastructural development in the state, programmes geared towards the girl child development, youths empowerment, appointment of youths into political offices and  his ability to listen to genuine agitations are indeed virtues that will make him stand out among his equals.

As a group, we do not write to seek cheap popularity but we write to ensure that certain ills bedeviling our people are looked into and be addressed accordingly if possible. “We must also commend you for the sustenance of peace in Delta State since you took over the mantle of leadership.”

However, the group noted that while the Governor has done a lot in other parts of the state, the Ijaw communities in the riverine part of the state needs his attention more than ever, stressing that he should make things happen in this area to make the people happy.

In their words: “Your Excellency Sir, these are some of the things your administration should do to make us have more sense of belonging in your government as Ijaw people.

“Ogulagha/Odimodi road project, resettlement of the Diebiri people back to their original ancestral home, building structures in the permanent site of the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu and its proper funding, completion of the Ayakoromo bridge project, demarcation of Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja land boundary, more youths empowerment from the Ijaw axis “.

Princewill asserted that it will be unfair to state that the Governor have not done anything in Ijaw areas, adding that the Governor has actually done some tangible road projects in Burutu, Ogulagha, Sokeboku/Yokiri, Obotobo I & II, Oporoza, Okerenkoko and what have you.

He noted that the group point of agitation is that the projects executed in the Ijaw areas is not commensurate when compared to projects executed by the Governor in his administration most especially considering the political and economic viability of the Ijaws in the  state over the years, the level of development in the area is not good enough when compared to what the Government is doing in other parts of the state.

The Ijaw Comrade Community particularly admonished Governor Okowa to inject funds for the completion of the Ayakoromo bridge so that his name can be mentioned like Ibori when he executed the Bomadi bridge project.
