Delta Guber: Okowa Is Treacherous And A Serial Betrayal – Oyimi

A FORMER warlord of the Defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) and Movement for the Actualisation of the Dreams of Niger Deltans (MADND), Mr Josiah Oyakongha aka Commander Oyimi has described the Governor of Delta State; Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as treacherous and a serial betrayal to the Ijaw ethnic group, revealing Ijaw people’s annoyance and how they felt betrayed by the governor as a result to the failure of an Ijaw man to clinch the PDP’s gubernatorial ticket in the State.

In a weekly press statement Commander Oyimi accused Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa for treating Ijaw people as second class citizens against the Urhobo people, which he said has fielded gubernatorial aspirants and candidates, since the beginning of the 4th republic, stressing that Ijaw people feel betrayed; despite, the physical and material resources they invested in his gubernatorial aspiration in 2015, he (Gov. Okowa) would turned his back against Ijaw people when the tides were dark.

He says: “The actions of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa against Ijaw people could only be ascertained as treacherous and a betrayal of trust to the Ijaw man; despite, the physical and material resources we invested in his gubernatorial aspiration in 2015, Gov. Okowa only would turned his back against us when tides were dark.”

The warlord further accused Gov. Okowa for playing politics with the Ayakoromo bridge just as the governor worked against Ijaw people’s governorship interest.

It is despicable that the Ayakoromo bridge, a landmark project in Ijaw nation that was awarded in 2013 will still be politically politicized (abandonment’ of the project) by Senator Dr Ifeanyi, just as the way he politically worked against the aspiration of an Ijaw becoming governor in the State,” he said.

The statement by Commander Oyimi reads in full:

The actions of Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa against Ijaw people could only be ascertained as treacherous and a betrayal of trust to the Ijaw man; despite, the physical and material resources we invested in his gubernatorial aspiration in 2015, Gov. Okowa only would turned his back against us when tides were dark.

We, therefore, ask Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to name the sins of Ijaw people, for us to be treated as a second class citizens against the Urhobo ethnic group that has fielded gubernatorial aspirants and candidates, since the beginning of our 4th republic.

In 2015 against all odds, Ijaw people massively supported Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa against a prominent Ijaw son who has all the political wherewithal.

It is indeed disturbing to see that Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa would openly worked against Ijaw people’s interest denying the friendship he had with Ijaw people yesterday for a new friendship today.

Furthermore, it is a brazen slap to us as Ijaw people, due to the fact that since the creation of Delta State in 1991, the Urhobo ethnic group has produced governor of the State twice, (Felix Ibru -1992 to 1993; whilst, Chief James Ibori – 1999 to 2007) excluding the governor that will emerge in 2023.

We want to categorically warn Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa that; henceforth, Ijaw people will not play a second role in Delta State. That we will do everything humanly possible to support those who appreciate or acknowledge our unflinching political loyalty, as well as our physical and material resources for the socioeconomic growth and stability of Delta State.

As it is today, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has refused to show commitment to the completion of Ayakoromo bridge even with governor’s recent approval for an upward review of the Ayakoromo bridge project, whereas the Kwale-Beneku bridge from Gov. Okowa’s north central, is near completion.

It is despicable that the Ayakoromo bridge, a landmark project in Ijaw nation that was awarded in 2013 will still be politically politicized (abandonment’ of the project) by Senator Dr Ifeanyi, just as the way he politically worked against the aspiration of an Ijaw becoming governor in the State.
