Delta To Celebrate Prof. Ukala’s Life and Literary Works, Dec 20
Before his death on September 14, 2021, Ukala, a Professor of Theatre Arts, was Member, Universities Management Council of the Dennis Osadebey University, Asaba, University of Delta, Agbor and the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro. He was also Member of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council.
The event, to be attended by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Special Guest of Honour with Prof. Sam Oyovbaire as Chairman of occasion will feature “Iredi War”, a play written by Sam Ukala which won for the Late Professor the Nigerian LNG prize for Literature in 2014. Cultural dances from various ethnic groups in Delta State would form part of the ceremony in honour of Ukala who formulated folkism as a literary theory.
A Sam Ukala Foundation will be inaugurated to oversee his interests and promote his ideals. The royal father of the day will be the Obi of Mbiri, HRM Obi Ifeanyi Alekwe while Dr. Sam Ojogbo, President, Ika Grammar School Old Boys Association, Agbor will serve as Guest of honour.
