EDO: IYC Hail Obaseki, Urges Him To Fulfil His Promises At Gelegele

Secretary of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Western Zone, Comr. Omaghomi OluDerimon have hailed His Excellency, Hon. Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State on his unscheduled visit to Gelegele community enroute Okomu and  Inikorogha communities in Edo State. The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report.

The Western Zone Secretary also urged the Governor to keep to the promises he made to the people of Gelegele  during the important visit, stressing that the Governor should make an Ijaw Indigene  from the riverine area of the state a commissioner. 

However,  it was a carnival  like reception when the Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his high powered  team visited Gelegele community after paying an unscheduled visit to Okomu and Inikorogha communities respectively, He was received in Gelegele by Engr Pius Donyegha, a chieftain of the PDP and patron Of Gelegele community, the IYC Secreatary western zone and the community executives  including women and children. 

In the residence of Engr Pius, the Governor was lavishly entertained and received into the house according to the Ijaw culture and custom. 

The SSG to the goverment who responded to the entertainment, thanked Engr Pius and the Gelegele people for the warm reception and promised that its a dawn of a new working relationship. 

The governor was briefed by Engr pius the several challenges the Ijaws of the state were going through in terms of infrastructural deficits and political patronage which has led to untold hardship in the  area, he pleaded with Obaseki to put a smile on the faces of the reverine people of the state that his kind gesture will never be taken for granted.

In a swift reaction, the governor afirmed that the design for the Udo/Inikorogha Ofunama road has been completed and  equipments will move to site this month, others include a concrete Jetty to be constructed at Inikorogha, Provision of five ferry boats to the rivrine areas of the state, a 500 kva generator set for Gelegele, the reconstruction of Ekewan market by Edsopade, Construction of Ekewan barracks Gelegele road from next dry season and the establishment of  marine polytechnic, Gelegele campus.

He also task the IYC to draw a youth developmental plan for youth Empowerment in the riverine area.

However,  there are indications that going by the governor’s promise, there will be a stakeholders meeting within the month on deforestation as initiated by the IYC weatern Zone. 

“While we thank the governor for painstakingly going round some of the riverine areas by himself, to get on the point assessment of issues affecting the people. For us the Ijaw youth Council and the entire ijaw nation, it is a well thought out plan by his Excellency.

“We therefore urged the governor to expedite action on the aforementioned issues and put smile on the faces of our people. “ Omaghomi OluDerimon stated. 

Highpoint of the unscheduled visit was the presentation of a souvenir, a handmade carving of a small canoe to the Governor .

“While we thank and appreciate the Govenor for all the kind words and promises made including the  immediate approval of SSA  appointment to one of our son, Comrade Desmond Selekowei Kororo as SSA. We will not be overwhelmed to forget that it is high time our performing In-law make way for a commisioner nominee from the reverine terraine largely occupied by Ijaw indigenes of the state .” Omaghomi said.
