Legal Adviser of the revered Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Barr. Obiri Ebilade has talked tough by chiding the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) on the retrenchment of indigenous workers in Forcados Terminal.

The legal adviser while defending the Ogulagha youths on their protest had called on the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to urgently akin to their demands as he warned that under any guise must the company attempt to shortchange Ijaw youths in their community on their right.

Barr. Obiri gave the warning yesterday via a statement issued to newsmen in Warri, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspaper.

Speaking further on the matter, Obiri had vowed that his office as legal adviser to the 8th IYC National Executive will be temporarily moved to Ogulagha community, headquarters of the kingdom until justice is done to the retrenched workers.

In his words: “I wish to categorically state that I am in solidarity with Ogulagha Youths over their protest against SPDC over the retrenchment of Ijaw Youths.

“I am not the Spokesman of Council, so I can’t make any address on the position of Council on the protest. But the office of Legal Adviser stands in solidarity with Ogulagha Youths and the Office of Legal Adviser shall temporarily be relocated to Ogulagha Community until justice is done.”

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that there had been days of unrelentless protest in Ogulagha community at the entrance gate of Forcados Terminal over SPDC’s purported sack of over 50 indigenous workers.

However, the over 50 downsized workers have been enmeshed in a peaceful protest, demanding their immediate reinstatement and prompt payment of their pending arrears, stressing that they can’t be slaves in their own community.
