Former IYC president Oweilaemi celebrates Tompolo’s freedom, Says Ijaw Nation Has Been Vindicated

Former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Barr.Pereotubo Roland Oweilaemi has joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate High Chief Government Ekpemukpolo popularly known as Tompolo on the recent court judgement.

In an exclusive chat with The Liberator Newspaper on Thursday, Oweilaemi noted that the freedom granted to the Niger Delta leader and former warlord  is indeed well comendedable and should be celebrated by all lovers of peace and democracy in Nigeria and beyond. 

The former IYC president  said he is very elated that despite the many years of turbulence and traveils of the freedom fighter in the hands of detractors, at last light prevailed over darkness.

While describing Tomopolo as a beacon of hope, peace and progress, he  noted that Tompolo was a man who truly loved his people and gave everything for their happiness even in the face of life threatening situation he found himself.

He explained that  Tomopolo was the  man who championed the course for the emacipation  of the hitherto oppressed people of the Niger Delta in recent times, noting that the supreme sacrifice he paid was a catalyst to the current peace  being enjoyed in the Niger Delta region and Nigeria. ” history will always be kind to him” he added.

The Torugbene born leader  urged detractors to discontinue further  perscution of the great Niger Delta emancipator but rather join hands with him to further  liberate the Niger Delta region from the scourge of underdevelopment.

He commended the the Judiciary for not not allowing itself to be cowed by some anti democratic elements who are hell bent on pulling down Leaders and voices in the Niger Delta area.

The revered former president of IYC reiterated that the entire Ijaw nation is happy for the judgement as Tompolo has been vindicated at the long run. 

Recall that a Lagos  Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday dismissed  all forty count charge against Tomopolo and Global West Vessels Specialist Limited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Tomopolo was charged along side a former Director -General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency Patrick Akpoboloukemi, Kime Engozu, Rex Elem and Grego.

In his ruling, Justice Buba upheld the defendant’s no case submission stating that the prosecution ” failed to establish a prima facie case against Tomopolo and others.

The  Liberator Newspaper can report that there is currently jubilation on going across the Niger Delta region following the decision of the court judgement.
