The leadership of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Western Zone, comprising Delta, Edo and Ondo states have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and all security agencies in the country to as a matter of urgency brace up to face the insecurity challenges bedeviling the country.
The group made their position known to newsmen in Warri yesterday in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting in respect to the threat made by Fulani Jihadist to attack cities in Delta State including Asaba, the state capital due to the Southern Governors position to ban open gracing.
The communique which was signed by the trio of Comrade Dr Doubra Collins Okotete, Chairman IYC Western Zone, Comrade Olu-Derimon Omaghomi, Secretary and Comrade Lugard Izoukumor, Information Officer, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide had also thrown its weight behind the decision taken by the Southern Governors Forum at Asaba to ban open gracing and sundry issues.
The trio had in the statement called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently restructure the country to avoid the rising agitations posing insecurity in the country.
The communique reads in full below:
A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL, IYC, WESTERN ZONE—AT THE END OF AN EMERGENCY MEETING VIA ZOOM, DUE TO THE THREAT ISSUED By FULANI JIHADIST
Date: 14 June, 2021
Following the threat by Fulani Jihadist to attack cities in Delta State, the Ijaw Youth Council, (IYC) Western Zone met, on the 14th day of June 2021 to review the State of the Nation and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to heed to the call of restructuring Nigeria by devolving powers to State Governors to be in charge of security.
IYC, Western Zone, therefore, commends South-South Governors on their position with regard to open Grazing. We flagrantly condemn the threat by Fulani Jihadist to attack Asaba and other cities in Delta State.
In view of the foregoing, we herby strongly urge the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria to avert the insecurity challenges bedeviling the country.
After a painstaking examination from the threat of the Fulani Jihadist, the leadership of IYC, Western Zone, resolved as follows:
(1) That we are in full support of the recommendations made by the South-South Governor’s Forum in Asaba.
(2) We call on President Buhari to mandate the security agencies to fish out these miscreants who are currently masquerading under the aegis of Fulani jihadist.
(3) The Ijaw Youth Council demands that the South-South Governor’s Forum especially those from the Niger Delta States should as a matter of urgent national importance send a bill to the various State Houses of Assembly seeking to ban open grazing.
(4) The Niger Delta people are currently the glue holding the nation, however, we are the only people that are not agitating for a break out from this contraption called Nigeria notwithstanding the fact that we are the economic base of this country, and any attempt to undermine our people will lead to dire consequences.
Finally, we wish to state that we are peaceful people even though we have the capacity to defend ourselves and our territory, we will not take laws into our hands. So, we urge the security agencies to fish out this disgruntled group code named “Fulani Jihadist.”
Signed: for IYC Western Zone

Comrade Olu-Derimon Omaghomi, Zonal Secretary &
