President general of a leading Ijaw sociocultural group, operating under the auspices of Ijaw Defenders Mandate (IDM), Comr. John Gbozimor, popularly known as JP has stated that the Ogbe-Ijoh community general hospital in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State has become a forest for wild animals owing to its gross abandonment by the authorities.

Comr. Gbozimor made the assertion recently during a visit to the hospital, stressing that the lives of the indigenes and other neighbouring communities who depend on the hospital for their medical care are in grave danger owing to the deplorable state of things that had engulfed the health facility.

The Niger Delta youth leader had called on the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently look into the poor state of things rocking the hospital, stressing that the lives of everyone in the state matters as reviving and revamping the hospital remains the best thing to do at this critical time.

Speaking further on the issue, activist John maintained that the hospital lacks staff strength, zero level of health facility as well as the non availability of a stable surgeon to attend to health related cases in the area.

He explained that there has been no sign of workers of any kind in the hospital for years now, adding that such must not be allowed to continue.

In his words: “We don’t even know if the Delta State Government has scrapped the hospital, we can’t see even security or cleaners, the Ogbe-Ijoh hospital is such a terrible one, I don’t even know why anything that has to do with Ijaw would be treated with a lukewarm attitude”.

JP particularly urged the Governor to do something now, adding that the people are already facing a lot along this regard, stressing that the people cannot survive despite playing host to the entire local government without a guaranteed medical facility.

“For the purpose of clarity, as i speak, there is no one that works in the hospital as a doctor, nurse, cleaner, security, pharmacist etc as obtainable in any general hospital.

“I am also using this medium to challenge the Delta State Government to conduct an independent investigation into this matter and do the needful”. John Gbozimor stated.
