Resident Electoral Commissioner of Cross River State, Dr. Franklank Briyai, has said he has constructed drainages in strategic areas of the state Independent Electoral Commission’s offices across the state in order to prevent erosion.
Dr. Briyai disclosed this on Tuesday shortly after receiving Distinguished Leadership Award from The Outreach Magazine’s 10th public lecture/environmental awards held in Benin City.
He was among 38 other persons awarded by The Outreach Magazine for their contribution to the environment in their different field of endeavours.
The lecture, with the theme, ‘Managing Land Degradation in Nigeria: The Challenges, Actions and Remediations’, the Cross River REC noted that he has ensured that degradation of environment through some unhealthy acts that may also get their offices eroded were stopped.
He said, “Since I have been in Cross Rivers State, I have ensured that our state offices are kept well. I ensured that degradation of environment especially planting of grasses that may get places eroded were stopped.
“In all the local government areas offices, I ensured that there are drainages that will be getting water out from the offices so that we do not have erosion that will take our state, local government area offices”, he added.
On the award given to him, Dr. Briyai noted, “I feel very honoured and humbled”, adding “this will also give me good encouragement so much to ensure that I keep doing what I have been doing to make sure that the environment is protected and it is not degraded by human activities.”
