It is truly hard times for the people of Ayakoromo community in Ngbilebiri Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State as flood overtakes the ancient community. The Liberator Newspapers can report.

Residents of Ayakoromo counted  their losses as a result of heavy flood, which has forced many to vacate their houses and also destroyed farm produce and businesses.

The residents say they now use canoes to access their homes and are forced to stay and sleep in canoes.

Some of the residents, who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday, said they were fed up with the government for neglecting them, adding that it was now difficult for them to feed.

One of the residents who would not want his name to be mentioned in print  said, “We are looking for what to eat. The flood has destroyed our fish farms and household properties,  we are in a serious mess.”

Reacting to the development, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the 8th President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Comr. Ebolo Samuel  has called on the Delta State Government and other relevant agencies to immediately send relief materials to the people of Ayakoromo community to ameliorate their sufferings.

The classical SSA to the IYC president had also called on the Government to make provision of IDP camps to relocate the people of Ayakoromo, stressing that the people are really passing through a lot.

Speaking further on the matter, Ebolo had called on Ayakoromo political leaders to rise up to the aid of the people, stressing that they must play politics of development and not politics of retrogression.

The young advocate for good governance had stated that the Ayakoromo politicians must not fail to draw the attention of the Delta State Governor to the plight of the people by bringing the needed relief materials and the setting up of IDP camps to accommodate the roaming people sacked by the flood.

He said Ayakoromo has always been a victim of flood in each passing year and there seem to be no positive and productive step on the part of the leaders and the Government in putting measures to avert the hydra headed monster.

Ebolo opined that beyond 2020, Ayakoromo politicians must now begin to work had to ensure that measures are put in place before 2021 to avert future flooding of the historical community.
