The ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Western zone elegant women leader and women in the zone on Saturday 7th of August 2021 in fulfilling part of her campaign promises made to the Ijaw women during her campaigns has embarked on a fitness walk and breakfast through which she  sensitized women in the zone on the need for women to be partakers in the  modern day political system. The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide can report.

“Girls and women have a right to engage in civil activities, vote during  elections, and be elected into sensitive offices in order to reflect gender equality in government”. Oki stated.

She further stressed that the voices of the women must be heard in any process that will ultimately effect positive change in the community, families and the general public.

She said “Investing in girls and women in political participation is a necessary step that we as women need to preach across the globe for gender equality and good governance.”

The event was graced by the ever intelligent Hon. Barr. Tari- ere Joyce K Gita, the director, Center for women development Ekeremor, constituency 1, Bayelsa State

Gita who  was the guest speaker of the ceremony said while describing the set back of women in politics as a world pandemic noted that “Women have been trying over the years to be part of the decision making process in politics but have not tried  enough, mostly because women themselves don’t support each other.  Even the few women that took it upon themselves to contest for elective positions are mostly not supported by their fellow women.”

She encouraged women to learn from the men by supporting and respecting themselves, stressing that it is  only in unity the women can achieve this course.

“Men in leadership also need to encourage and give opportunities to women to lead rather than see them as competitors.” Madam Joyce asserted.

She also pleaded with the President emeritus Barr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi and other senior stakeholders in IYC that they should make provisions for women to attain other positions in IYC aside the office of the women Leader. Saying that a woman can as well become the IYC President identifying that times have changed and the narratives must change as well.

However, on his part, Barr. Roland Pereotubo Oweilaemi, former president Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide who was Chief host of the programme  has applauded the women leader, Comr. Jennifer Oki for putting up such a programme to sensitize Ijaw women in the zone, adding that such programme is long over due.

Speaking further, Barr. Oweilaemi had charged Comr. Oki to do more programmes  geared towards women development in the Zone, maintaining that he is highly impressed with her first outing, adding that he is optimistic that better days are here.

He also assured Jennifer Oki that so long as she comes up with important programmes for Ijaw women, he declared that she can always count on his support in any way.

Meanwhile, Comr Oki Jennifer Eniye used the breakfast talk to unveil another project she tagged “SEX EDUCATION FOR RURAL DWELLERS AND SENSITIZATION/ORIENTATION RETREAT FOR 24 CLAN WOMEN LEADERS”

According to her, the project will  be carried out across the 24 clans in Western Zone before Dec 2021 with a three (3 ) days training that will equip the Women Leaders across the 24 clans.

In a thank you note, the western zone women leader on behalf of the women in the zone thanked former President Oweilaemi for hosting them and also appreciated  the guest speaker for honoring their invitation even in a short period of notification.

Oki had particularly hailed the gallant women leaders of IYC Western Zone and other critical women stakeholders that showed up and supported the programme, noting that she is highly indebted to them all.
