A group operating under the aegis of Ijaw Progressive Youth Leaders (IPYL) have condemned protests among Niger Deltans against the appointment of a sole administrator in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to complete the forensic audit.

The group made their position known to newsmen in Warri yesterday via a statement signed by the trio of Franklin D. Magada Convener, Comr. Jackson Agbor, Coordinator and Gen. Sunny Clark, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers.

While supporting the forensic audit, the group had particularly hailed President Muhammadu Buhari on his decision to appoint Effiong as the commission’s sole administrator to complete the forensic audit, stressing that corruption has rocked the NDDC for too long hence the time to cleans is now.

IPYL had also called on Ijaw youths to follow the directives of the IYC President Worldwide, Dcn Peter Timothy Igbifa on the NDDC issue.

Press Release

Arising from a critical stakeholders meeting on the state of affairs of the Niger Delta, We deem it fit to brief the press of our resolutions.

1. As youth leaders, we have watch with total dismay over the past few months, whereby the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) that ought  to be an interventional developmental agency is dragged to the media on bad light every now and then over corruption, forensic audit, Interim Management Committee (IMC), Substantive board and sole administrator. Which are sponsored by a section of disgruntled Politicians from the region, who sees the NDDC as a cash Cow to maintain their flamboyant lifestyle.

2. We condemn the consistence Niger Delta style of “Pull him down syndrome” of its leaders, that the likes of Goodluck Jonathan, DSP Alamiyasagha, James Ibori suffered that is now mounted on Sen. Godswill Akpobio Minister of Niger Delta Affairs in its entirety and especially the recent incident where some Ijaw Youths groups disrupt the office of the Minister in Abuja, and we say that is a foreign practice to the Niger Delta Youth modes of engagement which is intellectual approach, and that is a total affront to the authority and directive of the President of Ijaw Youth Council, who is the leader of Ijaw Youths worldwide.

3. We are in total support of the forensic audit on the NDDC, hence the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari only acted on what our Niger Delta Governors ask for which in return Mr. President approve forensic audit and again obeyed Court orders in appointing a sole administrator to finalize the forensic audit process. In any case, it was still the same disgruntled politician that took the NDDC to Court hoping to sack the IMC but in the attempt backfired. Our strong appeal to them and the entire Niger Delta is to give peace a chance, and to be patient and allow the sole administrator to focus on the job of concluding the forensic audit process side by side to develop the region.

Thanks gentle men and women of the press.
