In his independence message, Executive Director (ED), Planning Research and Statistics (PRS ), Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Amb. Dr. Comr. Shedrack Agediga has advocated for a renewed social contract between the Government and the people.

This was contained in a statement personally signed by the Executive Director, PRS, DESOPADEC, Amb. Dr. Comr. Shedrack Agediga, a copy of which was sent to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide earlier today.

The renowned Ijaw leader while speaking among other issues bedeviling the Nigerian federation had reiterated on the need for peaceful coexistence.

The statement reads in full below:

The Urgency of Justice, National Reconcilation and Peace; Nigeria at 61.
61 years ago today, Nigeria was celebrating her independence with a promise of a great nation. With arable lands, abundant Natural resources and a people with a spirit of resilience, the ingredients for a great nation is complete.

Down the line, the most populous black country dubbed the giant of Africa haven’t been without challenges.

We have unceremoniously walked the paths of Civil war, ethnic crisis, militancy and the most recent being banditry and terrorism.

All of these have continued to pose a question to our existence as an entity and have greatly undermined our peace and unity as a people.

It is against this backdrop, that I reiterate the need for peaceful coexistence, National dialogue and a renewed social contract between the government and the governed in our national life.

While we forge ahead in the midst of all our challenges on this very august occasion of our independence anniversary, I join my voice to all well meaning Nigerians to call on the Nigerian people and government to embrace justice, national reconciliation and peace for a great and prosperous future for our dear country.

Happy Indepence Day, Nigeria!

Signed:Comr Shedrack AgedigaExecutive Director Planning Research and Statistics, DESOPADEC
