A living Ijaw music legend, Chief Barrister S. Smooth, popularly known as the paddle of Niger Delta has decried the poor voting strength in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.

Smooth made the call yesterday during a media chat with The Liberator Newspaper while reacting to the recently released registered voters in the Local Government Area by the Independent National Electoral Commission, in Asaba, Delta State.

The Paddle of Niger Delta had particularly cried out, stressing that as large and rich as Burutu Local Government Area, the voting figures are unacceptable and completely nothing to write home about.

In giving a breakdown of the recently released figures across the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State by INEC, Barrister Smooth had revealed that Burutu Local Government figures are 99, 253 with 7, 098 PVCs still remaining to be collected.

Speaking on the implication of the figures in Burutu Local Government Area, the Ijaw living musical legend had further stated that instead of being the highest producers of votes in Delta State, Burutu is now reduced to number 16th among the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State according to the recently released figures of INEC.

In what he described as worrisome development, Burutu as a federal constituency is only ahead of 8 Local Government Areas out of the 25 councils in Delta state.

The paddle had maintained that there is totally nothing to celebrate as far as the Burutu Local Government poor voting strength is concerned, asserting that Burutu political relevance in Delta state has been hampered and greatly reduced to the barest minimum.

The born singer had described the situation as sorrowful, shameful and appalling, adding that if local government areas that has been splitted into three state constituencies will be more than a gigantic Burutu Federal Constituency each in terms of voting strength now, he said, dare political consequences awaits the people of Burutu.
